Did you know, 90%of charitable money raised in Berkshire, LEAVES Berkshire?

A shocking and worrying statistic for those of us running local charities .. very often businesses and individuals choose to support the well-known national organisations, without realising that smaller charities, often which provide essential local services, are struggling to raise funds.
Our House is a purpose-designed centre for disabled children and their families, across Berkshire and beyond, run by local charity Building for the Future. Based in Wokingham, Our House was set up by parents of disabled children, who continue to run the centre on a voluntary basis. It was opened by the Earl and Countess of Wessex in May 2014 and now supports over 400 families.
Please consider Building for the Future - www.bftf.org.uk - when choosing a charity to support. We are a vibrant, enthusiastic bunch and we love working together with local people to raise the funds to provide the many services we offer.
Message me for more info, or to come and look round our amazing centre. I can promise you will be impressed!

4 年Hi Jane that’s so true. I am Wokingham resident and love working and fundraise for small charities compared to big ones. Happy to work as team for any fundraising activities you are doing in Wokingham.

9 年I think a major issue is that we have a number of national companies with offices here, but that size of company tends to want to support a national charity. Once head office has decided on who they will support local offices are not able to engage with local charities. I feel that it is local individuals rather than companies that we need to focus on who currently give their donations to national charities. I believe that the reason this happens is because of the sophisticated fundraising and marketing that these larger charities do, making them feel more familiar and trustworthy to local people than their local charities often do.

9 年Hi Jane, yes I have been saying this for some time. But still some of the bigger Corporates look to London rather than where their staff live and the communities they are in. It is a shame that some do not consider charities with NO fundraising teams, rather than a huge mass of fundraisers.. Thank you to the 10% that believe in Berkshire.
