Did we just receive a love letter back? Reflecting on Apple’s Journey Towards Opening the Secure Element
It seems like just yesterday that we penned our “love letter” to Apple, admiring their prowess yet gently urging them to be more open with their secure element. Today, we find ourselves at an exciting crossroads as Apple makes significant strides towards greater accessibility of their secure element — a topic close to our hearts here at Fidesmo.
We like to see it as, a confirmation of Apple's love for us.
The Bigger Picture: Why Openness Matters
At Fidesmo, we have long advocated for an open relationship between secure elements and services, unleashing both sides true potential. An estimated 53 billion devices with secure elements are already deployed but are still under-used due to a lack of service adoption.
We are very glad that Apple now, by opening up, also understands the power of the ecosystem of 3rd party app developers of what that will do for adoption. Essentially Apple trail blazed much in the same way with the App Store and created the revolution of apps that we know today.
The real winner in this will be the consumer, that will get many new convenient services - new payment solutions, secure access controls, or innovative IoT applications, etc - all accessible more securely and conveniently for phones, cars, and other secure element enabled devices.
Looking Forward
As we celebrate this positive development, we also look forward to seeing how this will inspire others in the industry to follow suit. The future is bright, and we’re excited to be part of a community that continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible with secure elements.
Here’s to a future where security and accessibility walk hand in hand, just like Fidesmo and Apple.
Warm regards,
