Did someone say "customer"?
As the world continues to rage around us and businesses clamber to adapt, it's a harsh reality that many are struggling in their transformation efforts.
We can debate the reasons why but in the final analysis it always seems to come down to the people!
Of course having the right strategy is key but having the right transformational talent in place across the organisation is critical.
So in this edition, I've started once again on the topic of 'what does good look like' in transformational leadership?
Then we go on with insights on people, organisation and change and finally an alarming glimpse into what's really threatening the demise of Google and it's not just Chat GPT!

This is a real gem of a clip and I believe a great example of what good looks like in transformational leader.
It's a?conversation with?Ewan Macleod?Chief Transformation Officer at Sohar International Bank recorded in back in 2019 whilst he was still CDO at Nordea and attending a DataTalks event. The interviewer I believe is from the event organiser?CluedIn.?Please forgive me Ewan .. I couldn't resist!
The conversation lasts for just 7 minutes. How many times do you think Ewan uses the word "customer"? Answers on a postcard.....?
Note his reference to the importance of learning, community and the pollination of ideas across different industries too.

People & Change
I was lucky enough to enjoy a conversation with?Brian Hoadley?a specialist in digital product, research and design earlier this week and I am very pleased to welcome him as a new author on The Digital Transformation People!
Design is an increasingly important discipline and particularly as Roger Martin notes in this short clip because " the world of design has the best training in understanding customers and creating offers for them"
Brian is also hugely experienced on aligning teams and organisations to enable transformations that create real value for customers. So it's great to get is perspective on how to overcome the challenges of complex organisational change and transformation with a particular focus on people, organisation and collaboration too.

Creating a future-fit culture of innovation, agility, and adaptiveness involves complex systemic change.

The starting point in this is the recognition that an organisation’s culture is the system of mindsets that forms and informs peoples awareness of “the way we do things round here.”
Then, as with any systemic change, the smart move is to focus on the leverage points within the system.
In any organisation’s culture, the maximum point of leverage is in the mindsets of the key influencers, unique to this organisation and its context, importantly recognising that these people are not always in the most senior positions.
Many organisations try and fail to create a future-fit culture using four traditional approaches. read the article to find out how to do it right by focussing on key influencers
Great post from?John James?Growth & Commercialization Strategy - Champagne Aficionado who says:?
Who in your organization is tasked with inserting chaos? I bet there's nobody. And if there is, they are isolated and kicked out quick smart.
The biggest impediment to effective growth strategy is often a predilection to order. Which is a move away from chaos. It's also why Google and other bureaucratic companies are probably now doomed when it comes to achieving?#growth
But this discussion with Jim Keller, the guy who architected the revolutionary M1/2 chips for Apple and Tesla. in this Lex Fridman
Especially if you are into organizational management, creativity, engineering and business.
Very much related to John James post above it seems to be playing out at Google!
A very interesting post by?Dr Jeffrey Funk?who begins:
A former employee who sold his company to Google argues that the?#tech?giant has lost its way and could be brought down by its lack of a sense of urgency.??
Check out the comment too for example this from?Slava Andrejev?
"I observed this delusion of exceptionalism and grandeur among former Google employees who were my colleagues in another company. It was practically impossible to collaborate with them because any voice of reason they heard, they met with a universal objection: “we in Google did it this way...” Neither facts nor logic could sway them. The Google way is the only way."
Extraordinary ! Haven't we been here before? It looks like the decline of Google is more than the threat of ChatGPT.
