High-tech jumping train

Can you imagine a magical train that jumps tracks and grows taller, adjusting to its surroundings? Sounds pretty nifty, right? Now, what if we told you such a train exists? But it’s not magic – it’s technology. Dreamed up by engineers 150 years ago, the new Golden Pass Express embarked on its first journey on 11th December – travelling from Lake Geneva to Central Switzerland. Country music sensation Shania Twain was present at the inauguration ceremony, with one of the trains named – you guessed it – Shania Train.

Tech designed for disabled people is tech designed for everyone. That’s why Google has opened its first UK research and development centre dedicated to developing accessible and supportive tech for disabled people. The disability charity Everyone Can, the Royal National Institute of Blind People, and the Royal National Institute for Deaf People collaborated to design the London-based centre. Christopher Patnoe, Google’s Accessibility and Disability Inclusion Team Lead, said of the new development, “When people have equitable access to information and opportunity, everyone wins.”

Christmas party

We celebrated our annual Christmas party at The DoubleTree by Hilton on 9th December – kick-starting the month by getting into the festive spirit (or spirits, we should say). The drinks were flowing, the food was delicious, the sky bar views were incredible, and it was a great opportunity to celebrate the year’s achievements with the UK team. The event was extra special because we were joined by Cathcart director Murray’s new baby, Myles – his very first party! Happy holidays – we can’t wait to see what 2023 holds for Cathcart, our candidates, and the tech industry.

New year, new office

The Cathcart team has been advancing the tech industry from our Edinburgh office for over 10 years. While we’re more than fond of our prime location, we figured the office was long overdue an upgrade. This past month, we’ve been placing candidates amid dust sheets (and Christmas decorations), while Cathcart HQ undergoes a makeover. Keep your eyes peeled for some before and after pics in January!

Gift gag – or gadget

Every December, we celebrate our consultants with a fun festive initiative. This year, we wrapped 25 boxes containing various gifts and placed them under our office tree. For every deal secured in December, our consultant gets to pick a present. Some are silly and light-hearted – for instance, a McDonald’s Filet-O-Fish – while others are a little more exciting, like an extra day of annual leave.?

As always, thanks for reading. We look forward to seeing you again in 2023. Don’t forget to hit subscribe so you don’t miss out.
