Did Nationwide go to far?

Nationwide Superbowl advert

The talk of the adverts in this years Superbowl has reached massive debate on radio stations and social media. Most people are incredibly disturbed at the advertisement for Nationwide but I can only see how effective this advert has been.

Why? It's simple.

In the land of funny entertaining commercials during the past few years, the toss up for attention has always been left up to the audience. Some have preferences for products and support their efforts while others can't stand the person delivering the message (see Kim Kardashian) and they support the one they can get behind product-wise or talent wise.

This year EVERYONE is talking about how disturbing the Nationwide advert was. It's everywhere. Although not my choice as the worst (see Kim Kardashian) it has been the most effective. Great job Nationwide Insurance, you've got our attention...

A: We're still talking about it, so it's increased awareness B: We remember that it was Nationwide Insurance 'nuff said.

As insurance agents we are taught to "disturb" our clients and to get them thinking 'what if dad was hit by a semi on the way home from work tonight...' for instance. It has everything to do with getting someone who may be in a lackadaisical state of mind to 'snap out of it' and consider probabilities. This is a powerful way to bring someone back down to reality, and in my opinion, the Nationwide as does just that. It looks to me that Nationwide was conveying the fact that they are a resource in keeping kids safe, etc.
