Did they give consent?

Did they give consent?

When I make an article, I do it with a reason.

So the statement today is, can I tag a connection in my posts without asking their personal consent?

So first to clear the sky, consent means that you give permission for something to happen.

When we look at the GDPR, we could easily say, we need to ask consent in the case we want to tag or mention someone in a post.

Does this make sense?

If you ask me this question my answer is, NO. Why do I say no to this question? Simply because YOU as a LinkedIn user are 100% in control of what other users can do with your data (check the last section of this article).

When you don't want to be found on LinkedIn, don't use LinkedIn.

The reason why you are here is because you want to be found, and you want people to read about you. Depending on the situation people might send a link of your profile page to others (even when you say you are not open for recruiters, they still can see you) or tag you, just because they can do so.

Take the picture on the left "Pieta - Cloak of Conscience" we see a sculpture, but what do we see?

When you are on LinkedIn and you really don't want others to be able to tag you in "NEW" posts, you can follow these steps that LinkedIn handed you in your personal privacy area.

To make sure other LinkedIn members cannot mention you in their future posts, just follow these simple 4 steps.

  1. Click on your own small profile photo in the right upper corner of LinkedIn.
  2. Now select "Settings & Privacy" under the Account section.
  3. At the "Privacy" section under the "How others see your LinkedIn activity", click on "Change next to Mention by others".
  4. Switch the toggle to No to "OPT OUT" or to Yes to "OPT IN".

Be aware that: By disabling this feature it means that members cannot mention you in their future posts and comments. It doesn't remove your previous mentions automatically!

The Lesson learned here is: When you didn't set this setting in LinkedIn, you gave permission yourself to be tagged by other LinkedIn Members.

If your asking the question, it is reasonably certain they did not give consent... which is clearly yes or no, the question implies they did not...
