The DDG for Property Management, Neo Mosebo and her Branch led a stakeholder engagement with User Departments and the Landlords of leased buildings to discuss the current electricity challenges and to engage on alternative energy supply, occupational health and safety compliance and Facility and Maintenance Service Level Agreements. The Department of Infrastructure Development (DID) is the custodian of GP owned immovable assets as governed by the GIAM Act and has an obligation to ensure that these assets are efficiently and effectively managed throughout the lease lifecycle in a manner that supports service delivery.?
Chief Engineer Electrical from the Chief Directorate IRPS, Mluleki Hlatshwayo discussed Green Technology. He focused on Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) which are mandatory for private sector, non-residential buildings with a total net floor area of 2000m2 and above, and government owned or occupied buildings of 1000 m2 and above. EPCs for buildings are used as the tool to indicate the energy performance of the building total net energy consumption over the net floor area. Maluleke emphasised the importance of compliance, “We need to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions in South Africa”.?
The energy crisis impacts on business continuity which hampers service delivery due to insufficient backup generators and or alternative energy sources in leased buildings. The Chief Director for Immovable Asset Management Property Management, Khanyisile Nene, made several proposals to Landlords to address short, medium and long term interventions to deal with the energy crisis and to ensure full OHS compliance.??“Certain Landlords have neglected maintenance, have reactive maintenance plans and are inert to OHS legislation. These dialogues are solution oriented - we need to be transparent about matters of non-compliance and work to resolve these issues”.
This critical engagement with Landlords and User Departments are set to continue regularly to ensure that our business environment remains fully productive, planned maintenance is prioritised and OHS matters are dealt with in real-time.??
