Department of Infrastructure Development (DID)
The trusted provider of integrated and SMART public infrastructure and property management solutions in Gauteng
The Department of Infrastructure Development (DID), through the Stakeholder Management unit recently held a community engagement meeting at Benoni Ward 109 to discuss the upcoming construction of new Barcelona Primary School. The meeting saw the participation of the Ward Councillor, the appointed contractor, and local community members.
?The construction phase of Barcelona Primary School is planned to have minimal disruptions to the learners' schooling. Classes will continue in the existing facilities until the new school is completed. The current prefabricated classrooms will be relocated to make space for a sports field once the permanent building is ready.
?The project aims to transform Barcelona Primary into a smart school with state-of-the-art facility, creating a conducive environment for both learning and teaching. Planned upgrades include spacious classrooms, administrative offices, staff rooms, secure staff amenities, and a guardhouse to enhance the safety and efficiency of operations. The school is categorised as a mega school due to its large size, designed to meet the growing educational demand across the province.
?This new infrastructure will not only improve working conditions for educators but also position the school to meet the growing demand for quality education in the area. The site development plan for the project has been approved by the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE), with the building plans receiving approval on 23 August 2022. As construction gears up, the community eagerly anticipates the positive impact of the new school.
