Apple Intelligence will roll out later than expected, missing the initial iOS 18 release in September and possibly the first iPhone 16 shipments, Bloomberg reports, citing anonymous sources. The new AI features are now scheduled for release by October via software updates, to allow time to address any stability issues and ensure smooth integration, according to Bloomberg. The high-stakes rollout is part of Apple's broader effort to compete in the generative AI space. Apple is also taking the "atypical" step of making some features available to developers for testing as soon as this week.

• OpenAI just?announced?SearchGPT, an AI-powered search engine prototype that combines powerful AI models with information from the Internet to provide users with timely answers from relevant sources—directly challenging Google’s search dominance. Does this mean an end to the Google search? To get access to SearchGPT, you need to log into your ChatGPT account, then you can request to join the waitlist?here.

• Microsoft Boosts AI Capacity with Lumen Partnership?- Microsoft has announced a partnership with Lumen Technologies to enhance its capacity for AI workloads. This collaboration will leverage Lumen's network equipment to address the growing demand at Microsoft's data centers. As part of the agreement, Lumen Technologies will utilize Microsoft's Azure cloud services to reduce costs.

• New AI Regulation Agreement May Benefit Apple Intelligence in EU?- A new agreement between the US, EU, and UK on AI regulation may pave the way for Apple to launch its Intelligence features in EU countries. This development comes as law enforcement bodies from these regions have agreed to adopt common principles in addressing antitrust concerns over AI products and services.
• Five U.S. Senators have just sent a?letter?to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, demanding details about the company's efforts to ensure AI safety following reports of rushed safety testing for GPT-4 Omni. The letter requests OpenAI to make its next foundation model available to U.S. Government agencies for deployment testing, review, analysis, and assessment. Lawmakers ask if OpenAI will commit 20% of computing resources to AI safety research, a promise made in July 2023 when announcing the now?disbanded?"Superalignment team".
