Did Amazon Finally Change Its Strategic Direction?
Since Amazon's founding - and even after going public - the "world's largest retailer" has sought growth over profit. In fact, in 1997, Jeff Bezos penned a famous letter promising he would always value long-term growth over short-term profitability.
Fast forward to 2022 with Andy Jassy at the helm. Amazon may be feeling the pressure.?
Amazon (like most retail businesses) is facing slowing sales and a gloomy economy. The company froze hiring for corporate roles in its retail business, shut down its telehealth service, closed all but one of its US call centers, shut down its roving delivery robot, and is closing, canceling, or delaying some new warehouse locations.??
Will the belt tightening continue, or is this a momentary blip?
