DiaspoCare monthly digest -Quick rundown of what happened in March
DiaspoCare
Giving you the peace of mind you deserve... because your loved one's health matters most.
Welcome to our first edition of the DiaspoCare Monthly Digest. Our goal is to give you an insider view of DiaspoCare, a brief of the latest events and keep you informed with news from the healthcare industry.
Now, without further formalities, here is what went down in the month of March:
We made headlines
We are thrilled to share that we were in the news! We were featured in Kenya’s KTN. Our Business Development Lead, Peter Kamunyu, was discussing sustainability in healthcare where he highlighted our goal to ease access to quality healthcare and role being played by the African diaspora. We are incredibly proud to have our work recognized and appreciated. You can watch the full interview here in case you missed it.
Health is closer home for your family in Kenya
We made official our partnership with Kenya’s telehealth app, SASAdoctor to bring health closer to your family back home through the DiaspoCare App. Primarily, your family will benefit from unlimited consultations and assessments, treatment plans, lab services, diagnostic investigations, drug delivery and so much more. You now have a family doctor with SASAdoctor. While the packages are very affordable, we are still giving you 1-year unlimited virtual consultations FREE for the first beneficiary you add on DiaspoCare. Want to get started? The app is available for both Iphone and Android devices.
Ending the painful search for prescription
After months of working to bring it together, the DiaspoCare Medication Search service is ready. We knew how difficult it can be for your elderly or sickly family to move around in search of specific prescribed medication so we designed this just for you. We are ending the torture of walking from pharmacy to pharmacy trying to find a specific prescription. With our solid wide network of pharmacies, you can seamlessly find the nearest pharmacy that has stocked the drug here, get a quotation, pay for it and even have it delivered to your family.
Something from the healthcare industry
The Marburg Virus
Tanzania declared an outbreak of the Marburg virus on 21st March nearly a month after a suspected case was confirmed in Equatorial Guinea. As at the time of writing this newsletter, about six people had succumbed to the Ebola-resembling disease in Tanzania putting the neighboring countries like Kenya on high alert. There are not known treatment or vaccines for this viral disease and hence, we encourage you and your family to be vigilant. Please read more about the disease from WHO here.
A message for the World Health Day
April 7th, 2023 marked World Health Day which coincided with Easter holidays. To give it the attention it deserves, we intentionally delayed this communication.
The day calls for critical reflection as we acknowledge the challenges from Africa’s past including the failures by our healthcare system and the epidemics. We also recognize that there are more bumps ahead in ensuring universal access to quality healthcare. Yet, we celebrate the progress we have made towards achieving better health outcomes for all.
As an organization, we are committed to promoting health equity and addressing the social determinants of health by increasing access to quality affordable medication and health care services through technology and advocacy.
We believe that better healthcare inclusion, builds stronger communities which in turn build our continent. We are dedicated to working with partners to address the underlying causes of health disparities and to empower communities to take charge of their health.
Hence, the World Health Day is an opportunity to for us to reaffirm our commitment to building healthier communities and a healthier world for all as we appreciate your contribution towards this. We must continue to innovate, collaborate, and invest in our health systems to ensure that we leave no one behind. Together, we can create a brighter, more equitable future for all.
Parting shot
The successes of Quarter 1 of the year have set pace for the rest of the year and the best of DiaspoCare is yet! We are working tirelessly to ensure that your family back home has access to quality medical care and that your contribution to their healthcare is effective. Stay tuned because we are looking forward to sharing more with you soon.
