Say it Three Times: Linkedin, Linkedin, Linkedin!!!
I can’t say it enough - Linkedin, Linkedin, Linkedin… I have to say maybe 10 years ago, I was sitting in New York with my friend Tiffin Jernstedt and she was schooling (possibly scolding me in her way) for my lack of being present on LinkedIn . I remember saying what do you talk about and what do you post and she simply replied it’s my news channel and network. About two years ago, I was recruited by Jamé Jackson (Gadsden) to join her network of beauty influencers and executives and dip my toe into the LinkedIn creator economy.?
Fast forward to 2023 and I am a LinkedIn Influencer. I start my day scrolling LinkedIn and using it as my primary business development channel for new leads and contacts. I have met founders, investors, executives, editors and life long connections through Linkedin.? When I need to find someone or learn about what’s happening in the market, Linkedin is my go to source.?
I also love writing and in the midst of running my company, I have found my creative outlet through my LinkedIn newsletter, Diary of a Founder (thank you for reading) and have been able to tell stories that I would otherwise not be able to share to a focused engaged audience as well as learn from my readers who also share their thoughts and educate me constantly.?
So it was such an honor when Jamé introduced me to Anjana P. , contributing editor at Teen Vogue and we jumped right into her questions around:?“How to Utilize Social Tools Like LinkedIn to Boost Your Career”.?
Along with Max Hemphill , fashion photographer & CEO of plant-based skincare brand Ascension, Shelcy Joseph , co-founder of NYCXCLOTHES, Manessa ?? Lormejuste , beauty scientist & product developer, Jaleesa Jaikaran , makeup artist & content creator, and Jamé Jackson (Gadsden) , founder of TheBlondeMisfit.com & community segments lead at LinkedIn, we went deep on our key thoughts for how to maximize LinkedIn across the cosmetic chemistry, photography, or freelancing.
Below are a few tips and tricks to get you going:?
Max Hemphill: Embrace vulnerability and authenticity on LinkedIn to make a lasting impression. Share your personal journey and experiences to connect with others in the industry.

Shelcy Joseph: Build strong communication skills and learn how to pitch yourself effectively. Regularly catch up with mentors or peers to nurture relationships.
Manessa Lormejuste: Be comfortable seeking guidance from individuals who may not look like you. Embrace the value of building partnerships and relationships in the industry.
Jaleesa Jaikaran: Treat yourself like your own CEO and advocate for what you want. Boldly put yourself out there and ask for opportunities.
Jamé Jackson: Focus on engagement and comments on LinkedIn, as the real riches lie in actively participating in conversations. Build your audience by having a dialogue and being present in the community.
And I'll leave you with my tip: Identify where you see yourself in the beauty industry and follow people with similar jobs. Own your destiny and align with companies that match your values.
