Diary of a Founder: The Commitment and Power of the Team

One common theme that’s come up again and again this week is the importance of a team in driving purpose and culture.?

It’s been a while since I was back of house and in the front row at NY Fashion Week. My earlier career as the first Director of Digital Media at Ralph Lauren gave me unparalleled access to the world of fashion, both behind the scenes and in the consumer experience. When we first launched BrainTrust Agency, we were hired to capture social media content for over 10 shows. We were also proud to be the social media agency for Cushnie et Ochs— Tierra’s first fashion show where she sat front row in awe of the designs.?

This 2022 New York Fashion Week, the LaQuan Smith fashion show was the perfect example of teamwork as BrainTrust Agency executed the partnership between LaQuan, Flawless Beauty by Gabrielle Union and Larry Sims— with Larry Sims as the Master Stylist and Flawless as the official Hair Partner. Watching Larry and his team style the models while makeup artists, seamstresses, my team, and production fluttered around backstage preparing for the big show, I was brought back to the beginning of my career in this space

For those of you who have not experienced the behind the scenes of producing a fashion show, it’s magical, it’s exhaustive, and its success lies not only with the designer, but the entire team. I’m forever grateful for my time at Ralph Lauren where I learned the inner workings and importance of back of house. Before the audience arrives, the true culture and aptitude of the team and leader are behind the curtain in the truest expression of teamwork bringing together the designs, the venue, the guests, the hair, makeup, styling, music, flowers, gifts, and so much more.?

Each team member has a role and responsibility that manifests in the passion, purpose, and culture of a brand.

What I saw all Fashion Week is every brand exudes their own culture that comes to life across the runway, sewn together by the unique purpose of the brand, the vision of the designer and ultimately, the commitment and power of the team.
