Diary of a COO. ?? ?? ??

INTRODUCTION - Part 1:?

The CEO is often the center of attention and the singular hero (or villain) of every business narrative in modern media. Yet, anyone who works closely with CEOs knows that they are so often focused on the future vision, and allocating capital that they can't realistically be deep in the details of implementing most of the core business decisions.

That's where the COO steps in. COOs delve into the trenches to implement strategic decisions and take the actions that truly transform a business for employees and customers. Not to forget, measuring and staying accountable for real-world results. In other words, COOs get sh*t done, and they show it.

Since COOs are often outside the spotlight generating genuine impact, I've decided to shed some light and share some of my key reflections, learnings, and a few surprises I've learned from my time as a COO in a series of posts here. It's not just for COOs; it's for anyone aiming to leave a significant mark. I have a wealth of experience to share here and I'd love to tailor it to you, so please me know which of these topics (or any others) you want to see next:

  1. What made you decide to be a COO
  2. How to become your COO’s best friend
  3. The key skills and qualities of a successful COO
  4. How COOs collaborate with CMOs, CXOs and the rest of the C-suite
  5. How to build a strong relationship with your CEO and other C-level executives
  6. How to balance strategic vision and operational execution as a COO
  7. How to foster a culture of innovation and collaboration among your teams
  8. How to manage change and uncertainty as a COO
  9. The most valuable lessons and mistakes I’ve learned from my COO journey
  10. How to mentor and develop the next generation of COOs
  11. How to measure and improve your impact as a COO
  12. The biggest challenges and opportunities for COOs in the post-pandemic world
  13. The future of the COO role and how to prepare for it

Andrew Whelan I'd be interested in 10. I believe there are some operational geniuses like OBMs and DOOs that with the right mentorship can be extremely effective COO's.
