Diary of a CCO #1 — ‘The idea’
In the Creative Industries, becoming an effective Manager, and eventual Leader, is mostly (...a few years ago I’d have written ‘exclusively’) a trial and error learning process. Most of the knowledge shared focuses on ‘The Craft’ — from books on how to improve your writing (*advertising break* check out ‘The Unwritten Rules of Copywriting’, penned by Dom G. , one of the nicest and bestest* copywriters I’ve worked with) to video tutorials on how to perfect your creative prompting (he hasn’t done any yet, but he will… right Dani?).
With that in mind, I had an idea.
As I take on the responsibility of becoming Global CCO of T&Pm , could it be useful, and hopefully entertaining, to share some (full and unedited version to come after retirement, pre-orders soon-ish!) of my trials, tribulations and associated learnings, in the hope of making it a little bit easier for those that come after me? I aim to be truthful and succinct, but do remember that I work in Advertising, so a decent amount of Lilly gilding is to be expected throughout. Enjoy... and any suggestions are very welcome.
*Dom was very accepting of my Portuguese-English (Porglish?) and, in fact, always incentivised me to embrace language ‘flaws’ that might lead to unexpected results.
Written at home, to ‘All along the watchtower’, Jimmy Hendrix (more on this later…)

3 周Yes. If you can find the time I think it would be of real benefit to people. I’m seeing lots of references to great books on advertising as the industry broadens and more people are trying their hand at it. To get an insight to someone who is running a large creative department and has gone through the ranks would be great.
