“Don’t live every day as if it were your last. Live every day as if it were your first.”
Can I share with you a story & a simple framework that might change your perspective on how you approach your work every day?
About a year ago one of my former colleagues stormed into my office,
Slammed the door shut,
Plopped down in the chair,
& asked me a question I’ll never forget…
He said -
“Diamyn, I can’t take it anymore…
I’ve been observing you work from afar for the past 11 months.
What the hell is your secret?
I've never seen you have a "bad day"...
Every time I see you it seems like you’re always on top of it.
How do you consistently show up at such a high level every day from start to to finish no matter the day of the week it is?"
My brain initially wanted to respond with:
Easy - I approach every day as though it's my first day of work.
But then I remember thinking to myself:
?? That looks like how I approach the start of each day,
but it doesn't capture it all...
There’s more to it...
Gotta dig deeper...
Then I wanted to say:
I approach every day as though it were my last day.
But then I thought to myself:
?? That looks like how I approach the end of each day,
but doesn’t capture it all.
There’s still something missing...
Then I had to figure out:
How do I articulate the the fact that the real "secret" is that I'm always finding creative ways to put myself under some capacity of pressure in order to optimize my thoughts, emotions, words, & actions?
I was struggling to articulate it at first but then
I stood up, walked over to my whiteboard,
grabbed an expo marker,
& started sharing the following out loud (while mapping it all out on the whiteboard):
"I'm not perfect nor do I have any secrets, but here are 8 things I do that I believe separate myself from other people in our industry & answer your question:
It’s called
“THE ONE DAY CONTRACT MENTALITY”
Imagine if you approached your work as if every day was your first day…
Imagine if you approached your work as if tomorrow wasn’t guaranteed…
Imagine if you approached your work with the one day contract mentality…
Think about it for a second...
How clear would you be on the results you needed to focus on?
How memorable of an impression would you leave on those you interacted with?
How intentional & strategic would you be with everything you did?
How poised & centered would you show up in the face of adversity?
How passionate & enthusiastic would you visibly be about your work?
How focused & productive would you be during the day?
Imagine how much further along you’d be in your career if you chose to operate this way every day...

I promise if you applied this mentality every single day, over time
your worst days would eventually become most people’s best days.
Here's the truth:
There’s a version inside of YOU that’s 100x better than the one that you're currently experiencing right now...
The only difference between YOU and the version of you that’s 100x better is this...
The version of YOU that is 100x better chooses to live by the one day contract mentality every damn day.
To make this a bit more practical, here's a simple framework I use to evaluate myself at the end of each day...
There are 2 ABSOLUTES that will always exist inside of the daily game life & work.
If I challenged you to evaluate your last 10 days of work (day by day) & rate yourself on a scale of 1-10 in both categories, what would your data tell you?
Use the following definitions to rate yourself:
?? PAUSE the story & do the exercise above (takes less than 2 minutes) ??
What did your data look like?
Here's what most people's data looks like the first time they do this:
Do you see how that's a problem?
These numbers tell a lot.
Moving on...
There are 2 core themes that are constantly influencing the results & relationships you experience.?
Here's what I mean:
Here’s what it sounds like when we put them together:
Let's dive deeper into all four of these separately for a second...My hope is that you fully grasp the importance of each while seeing the world through the "The One Day Contract Mentality" frame.
Results - Your ability to produce extraordinary results that last.
If you were on a one day contract, what are the things that you would go above and beyond to execute? Why?
Relationships - Your ability to intentionally connect with people in ways that are positive & memorable.
If you were on a one day contract, who would you go out of your way to interact with, connect with, or mentor? Why?
Radiance - Your ability to consistently show up as the highest version of yourself - internally and externally.
If you were on a one day contract, what kind of positive energy would you show up with? Why?
Time Intentionality - Your ability to leverage every second strategically.
If you were on a one day contract, how intentional would you be with your time? Where would you invest it? Why?"
“Don’t live every day as if it were your last. Live every day as if it were your first.”
Over the next few articles I will give the details as to how to:
?? REFLECT - Take a moment to reflect on the insights shared in this article & one thing you can do to apply the one day contract mentality (even though I haven't shared with you all of the details of HOW to put it into action yet).
?? COMMENT - What stuck out to you most from this article?
?? NEXT WEEK - We'll dive into the next digestible piece of the one day contract mentality.
Until next time,

1 年Points 4-7 are SO GOOD. That stuck with me the most. It made me think of the spotlight effect (something I’m struggling with intensely), but how I can positively turn that around to keep impostor syndrome at bay.
