U.K-based medical device company Quanta Dialysis Technologies (QDT) has developed a portable dialysis machine that can seamlessly integrate in home or hospital settings, effectively removing acessiblity barriers from hemodialysis treatment processses. According to the National Kidney Foundation, about 10% of the world’s population suffer from Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and millions lose their lives because of lack of affordable treatment options.
If you perform dialysis slower, more often, overnight, patients are getting better outcomes

QDT’s flagship SC+ hemodialysis system weighs in at only 71 lbs - a fraction of the weight of their competitors’ product. With an impressive leadership team boasting of former corporate heavyweights and seasoned medical professionals, QDT hopes to make dialysis treatment accessible to “every patient in every setting”. As opposed to traditional dilaysis machines which are large and require complex operational setup along with expensive upkeep, the SC+ system is simple to use and can be used at home while the patient sleeps, eliminating stressful appointments and yielding better results.?
“Most dialysis in the world is provided with large refrigirator style hemodialysis devices, and it has terrible outcomes for patients - about 5% mortality in 5 years, and its very costly to do it. If you perform dialysis slower, more often, overnight, patients are getting better outcomes.” said Dr. Paul Komenda, Chief Medical Officer of QDT in a recent interview with How It’s Med. He further described his journey from a medical researcher to the health tech industry, highlighting the importance of innovation to ensure a better future for healthcare.
