Dialogue between the Gods ( with Coffee)

I found this dialogue, in a document in an old book in the Attic. Note all characters as described here are fictitious - possibly imaginary

I suspect the dialogue is a fiction too.

God and the Devil were having Coffee – which was rare because God really doesn’t like Coffee – but the Devil was paying and God believed in Grace.

They sipped their coffee. The Devil always ordered the Chocolate Macchiato, with chilli peppers. God made do with a Cappuccino (he would have ordered a Flat White but felt that might show some bias)

Eventually – reluctantly - the Devil spoke

DEVIL: You know, I have been meaning to bring this up, but I don’t want to offend.

GOD: No please – offend away

DEVIL: Well, it's just – I feel useless

GOD: No no not at all – we all have a place

DEVIL: At your discretion, we all have a place

GOD: Yes,that of course – but please go on

DEVIL: I feel well, ok I‘ll just say it – your beings are out-working me

GOD: Beings? Which ones?

DEBIL: The human ones – I mean I can’t keep up. No one can – who can even imagine the evil they do to each other.

GOD: Yes, well –

DEVIL: I mean they do things literally I can’t even imagine. If I hadn’t seen what they do to each other with my own eyes – I literally wouldn’t have been able to imagine.

GOD: Yes, they –

DEVIL: And they are not even Professionally Evil – they’re just, they’re just – I don’t know - words are beyond me.

GOD: They do exhibit good qualities you know

DEVIL: It's not the good that concerns me – that’s your deal.

GOD: Well, you see –

DEVIL: I mean I am supposed to be the evil one here – and honestly, I can’t compete. They’re, they’re - Mean, Spiteful, Hypocritical, Selfish, Judgemental, Murderous, Self Centered, Sanctimonious, Deceptive, Unctuous, Deluded, Double-Dealing, Cynical, Insincere, Two-Faced -

GOD: It's -

DEVIL: Did I say Mean – because when I say Mean-

GOD: It's their manner

DEVIL: Their what?

GOD: Their manner – free will, all that

DEVIL: Well, take it away – get them good or whatever – I mean what’s my role here?

GOD: You have a place, everyone has a place

DEVIL: You keep saying that – but what role – they are taking my role

GOD: I can see your upset

DEVIL: Make them good – or at least neutral so I can have some leverage there

GOD: Yes well, that’s a problem

DEVIL: You’re God – use your Godship stuff – take away their free will

GOD: Well, I sort of can’t

DEVIL: Of course you can

GOD: Not with this lot, part of the deal. And you know mostly they’re just frightened, fearful.

DEVIL: What?

GOD: Sometimes they feel it's all too much

DEVIL: All too much? All too much?

GOD: It’s the Free will – too many choices – and come on now - some of them quite often make good choices

DEVIL: Too many choices!! What about all that guidance you gave them? Keep giving them.

GOD: You know how they are.

Pause

GOD Now next time -

DEVIL: Yes, next time - consider my feelings- allow me some work, some space. Next time

GOD: Absolutely. Let’s just say – lesson learned

DEVIL: Right

GOD: Next time, I promise

DEVIL: Ok

PAUSE

GOD: By the way, this coffee is very good

DEVIL: Isn’t it
