A Dialogue Between Fear and Wisdom

A dialogue between Fear and Wisdom. An original work.

Fear will tell you, in his wise-sounding, cynical style:

“How can you know you have the right answer?

How can you know when it’s time to act?

When every decision may be fatal!

No wrong decision can be taken back!”

Then Wisdom will answer, with her soft smile:

“…because it will likely scare the hell out of you.

As all new things do. And that’s the truth, you know.

Doing anything great comes at the great expense

Of leaving many other great things undone.”

Fear counters back, in his clever guise:

“You already walk a tight-rope in this life -

It’s a delicate, careful game of precision!

But what will you do once you’ve acted

Only to discover it was the wrong decision!”

Wisdom, in all her joy, replies:

“Oh, dear friend! That’s almost certain to be the case!

But you err with concern of the disaster we’d invite.

For that rope you speak of, is full of grace;

And grace needn’t be walked so tight.”
