Dialog
Dialog is crucial to communication. When two people or two factions exchange views they gain an understanding of the others contrasting position. Much as an artist applies combinations of contrasting shades to the canvas, accordingly, he or she will achieve the desired image.
With Dialog this reveals the depth of contrast between views. When dialog is pursued, it leads to a measure of understanding and increases the potential in bridging differences.
Diplomacy is Dialog. Dialog is diplomacy. Both words are congenial with one another. Both reflect a willingness to exchange views in the pursuit of common ground. These words are the bridge to understanding one another.
Our founding fathers adopted this wisdom when designing our nations symbol, the Great Seal of the United States of America.
I call your attention to the Eagle in the Seal. The bird looks to the left talon holding the olive branch. The olive branch has always been a symbol of peace and accommodation. This image is the symbol of Diplomacy and Dialog. This has always been our county’s first approach to differences.
When all efforts of Diplomacy and Dialog fail, then the bird looks to the right talon which is holding the arrows. The arrows are the symbols of force or war. The last resort of choice.
Dialog resolves conflict!
