Diabetes Won't Beat Us
Diabetes-- the silent epidemic that has plagued the lives of almost half the citizens of the United States, is only growing. To put these numbers into perspective, there are roughly 330 million Americans, of which 140 million are known to have a documented case of Diabetes and Prediabetes, needless to mention that there are still millions of undocumented cases. To make matters worse, fast forward to 2029, and these numbers will have gone up astronomically, affecting more than 55% of the breathing population in America!?
Now, you may ask, what's the problem? We get it. There’s bad food -- you go to the doctor-- you get some pills and you exercise-- DONE!
Not quite…
Diabetes is a pandemic. In layman's terms, if left untreated, you can kiss goodbye to your feet, your eyes, and your arms! In the chronic stages of Diabetes, the disease starts to give birth to new problems such as diabetic neuropathy, diabetic retinopathy, kidney failure, foot ulcers, and in some cases, necrosis of the foot.?
TLDR;
Do you want your foot amputated?
Do you want to lose your vision?
Do you want your hands to forever feel like ants or insects are crawling?
The answer is probably not…
Now you may ask if this is so bad, how come it isn’t on par with other fatal diseases like Cancer, Heart Failure, etc..?
This game has a long buildup. It is a slow, painful and gradual loss of function that has a domino effect that no one would like to live to see.

The seeds of this convoluted problem began when the USDA published the infamous food pyramid, where carbs and grains were emphasized to be the base foundation of a healthy diet. (LOL!) In response to this subliminal misleading by the government, food industries began to mass produce grain and high-carb-based foods that would equate to an exponential rise in human productivity! (Ahh, the magical seeds of uncontrolled Capitalism!) To meet the high demand for 24-hour operated shops, man-made sweatshops, and unmatched corporate competitiveness, humans set out to become machines, and for machines to run, they need oil, just as we need... You guessed it-- CARBS & GRAINS! Carbs are now the hallmark of our diet while the other nutritional powerhouses are growing more deficient with each passing day. Our bodies were not designed to consume a primarily carb-based diet, which is clearly evident in the prevalence of diabetes today.?
Which brings us to-- What exactly is diabetes? It is a disease of excess sugar in the body that leads to insulin resistance. We are getting excess sugar from the foods we eat, which leads to insulin resistance in our bodies. The more unregulated this excess sugar becomes, the more your body craves it when in reality, it needs LESS of it. Unfortunately, most of us are unable to tell the difference between our never-ending cravings and the insatiable desire to fill our stomachs. Diabetes is the carbon monoxide of disease, it is indeed the silent killer...
Now that we are aware of the problem, it is up to us now to figure out how we slow this exponential rise, or better yet, reverse it. That is what Alpha Health is out to do. We are developing the best-of-its-class Reversal Management Platform to help diabetics and pre-diabetics manage their condition with the foundational breakthroughs in behavioral science, functional medicine, and of course, software technologies.?
Reversing diabetes is as much regulation and monitoring as it is treating through conventional means of exercise and medicine. We now offer unmatched on-the-clock monitoring of a client along with the hour-hour guidance they need to reverse it, with, of course, a little nudge from Alpha’s Health Catalysts.?
Alpha’s first protocol, otherwise known as Core M3, will allow participants to collaborate with peers that have similar diabetic profiles. Each individual is assigned a Health Catalyst that monitors their food-sleep-activity ratio while having quantifiable metrics to assess their performance amongst their peers and most importantly themselves. This program will monitor, advise, triage, and manage each individual’s digital journey to reverse diabetes via core calisthenics, state-of-the-art nutrition, and evidence-based mind-body techniques!?
The program is broken down into weekly intervals that are designed to act as checkpoints to monitor the progression of their hard work. Whether it's a strategic change or routine management, Alpha’s detailed metrics provide summaries and improvement suggestions on a screen that would otherwise take countless hours of analytics. We broke hundreds of hours of data science into 30 seconds of “This is what you did and here’s how you can improve” At the end of their programmatic journey, we have a ceremony where we graduate the patients and they become part of an alumni network. Many of them will come back and become certified Health Catalysts for future Journey-peoples.
The journey immerses the individual in their conquest for change. Deep thought and thought-provoking discussion that asks difficult questions to find out how motivated the client is to change. They are then taught about the necessities of Movement, Metabolism & Mindset in their involvement in holistic change. How the mind, body, and nutrition need to coexist in everlasting unison to reverse the conditions that plague their existence today!?
How will this be achieved? Software. Software. Software.
How is software better than medication? When you take a pill you are taking hardware. You are taking this physical thing, putting it in your mouth, making your stomach break down, and after your liver processes it, it finally goes on to do its chemical thing to help manage diabetes. What is not consistent is exactly how the body reacts. You take it daily, but the important work of actually reversing the condition does not happen. Your body adapts to it and just makes it a normal routine. That is why we still have this problem today. It is a pandemic.?
Software on the other hand is very proactive. At this very moment, I can assure you that you use at least 2-3 apps to get through your day, multiple times a day. This monotonous repetition isn’t done out of whim, there’s a reason and rhyme behind it. We have the good fortune to know from behavioral science that these apps we routinely use create habits. These habits are the fundamental building blocks to understanding our subconscious and autonomous behavior.
Each of us is a cumulation of the habits we have programmed. Using an app to manage your diabetes is exponentially better for so many dimensions of health. You are placed in a peer group. That is the social component. You are guided by a Health Catalyst who helps guide you on this journey. You get to see your data visually. You are given a digital curriculum to watch and learn about what has been happening inside you. The more educated and conscious you are about your situation, the more you will work toward doing your best to maintain it. Every person loves themselves and knowing and understanding more will help them lead healthy lives.

5 年I could not agree more! For me, it’s about chronic pain and low carb/keto has resulted in a pain free life...we should tax sugar for the damage it creates!
