Diabetes to Blame for Rates of Two Nerve Conditions Increasing
Matthew D. Lowry, D.C.

Once considered rare conditions, autonomic and small fiber neuropathy are on the rise as the rate of diabetes increases among the general population. Autonomic neuropathy in known to affect involuntary bodily functions such as blood pressure, digestion, sexual function, urination, temperature control, and sweat regulation. Individuals with small fiber neuropathy often have burning pain in their feet that eventually progresses up their legs. There is no cure for either form of neuropathy; however, progression of neuropathy associated with diabetes can be stabilized or slowed by controlling and treating diabetes.
