DGIQ - Day 2 Perspectives
Day 2 at DGIQ/AIGov is complete and from my point of view there are three things I will take from it.
Point 1 - DGPO and University of Maryland Capstone
A few years ago I started getting more involved and aware of the Data Governance Professionals Organization (DGPO). Whle there are many other organizations out there that support different or broader sets of interests, DGPO is the only one that is solely focused on Data Governance.
The DGPO is looking to expand the available knowledge across our indistry, and as part of that engaged with David Loshin Graduate Level Capstone course. At the DGPO meeting at 7:30 on Day 2 they presented the results on their project. They did great, great work. They did analysis on what research and sample documents are available both internally at organizations such as DGPO and Dataversity, and available externally. This was done through the development of a taxonomy of terms, and Bigrams and scanning of available documents. It is clear that we need more revenue-less sharing of best practices, documents, and best practice details to help both our data industry and governance capabilities (AI and Data Governance) to progress forward.
DGPO is a great organization that shares via social channels and at $75 per yeare membership to get to the collateral is important. But what is more important is to build out, openly share, and help each other grow.
I wanted to acknowledge the efforts of the group of graduate students, (pictured above) including:
Moving forward, if you are interested in building and sharing content, reach out to DGPO
Point 2 - Business Value of AI for Data Governance
We held a great session on rather than being focused on what Data Governance needs to do for Data Governance, but what value can be achieved in Data Governance with the advantages of AI.

In this session we discussed the possibilities around: (1) DataOps (Build & Run); (2) Data Quality; (3) Data Privacy; (4) Data Security; (5) Compliance; (6) Data Enablement; (7) Leadership, Promotion, and reducing the risk of the "Run on the Bank' i.e. staff reductions in data governance.
For those of you who are interested in more detail on this, hit me with a DM and I can share the content package.
The highlights of the session, the audience appreciated the benefits around Data Security Reviews, Privacy Classification & Characterization, and especially the idea of building out an AI Bot for Data Governance, aka Stewie...
Point 3 - Hallway Conversations
Throughout the day I loved to hear two classes of people. Those who are telling others how things should be and the great things they are doing (my bit of amusement) and more beneficial conversations when people say "I can't figure out how to do X" and the resulting conversation about ideas on how to make it happen either by what people have done, or ideas from the collaboration.
The bottom line is events like DGIQ/AIGov is at its best when we share ideas, experiences, and challenges in a way to make everyone better and provide ideas for what they can do when they get back to their office (real or virtual).
My big benefits in this area were some feedback on the Layers of Modern Data Governance, the use of Telemetry data for Data Product Usage, and Cross-Organization Orchestration. This feedback and some great ideas made the trip worthwhile.
