To understand how the peace described in Shrimad Bhagwad Gita along with fighting the war are not contradictory, let’s take the following analogy. If a patient is suffering from cancer, the best way to handle that would be operate that or cut that off from the body. Now from the surface level, someone can think cutting some organ from the body is actually violence or harmful for the body. But that is not so. The fact is removal of the harmful parts from the body is actually beneficial for the patient.
Similarly, when evil forces appear in the society it becomes necessary to cut them off. We have seen in the modern era, when some noted criminal is convicted, he is even hanged i.e. cut off from the society. Sometimes when terrorists attack, the military must fight with them and kill them so that peace is prevailed in the long run though any kind of fight may appear to be contrary to peace from the surface level.
Exactly the same thing had happened during the time of Kurukshetra. That time there were many evil forces lead by Duryodhana and hence it was necessary to kill them. That’s why Lord Krishna asked Arjuna to fight the war to kill them. So for long run, the Kurukshetra war was necessary. However this does not mean Bhagavad Gita doesn’t preach peace for the short term also. Lord Krishna give the peace formula as follows:
“The sages, knowing Me as the ultimate purpose of all sacrifices and austerities, the Supreme Lord of all planets and demigods and the benefactor and well-wisher of all living entities, attain peace from the pangs of material miseries.” [SBG 5.29]
So if we accept the fact that Lord Krishna is the ultimate enjoyer, the Lord of all the planets and the well wisher of all beings, then we will attain the real peace. Please note, Krishna’s instructions to Arjuna to engage in fight should not be taken literally. We need to understand the real message of that instruction. That instruction actually means we should do our prescribed duties and occupation and need not give those up for the sake of spirituality. Just that we should consider Krishna to be the enjoyer of the fruits of our actions instead of us trying to enjoy the fruits. In that way we will attain the real, eternal peace.
Obviously they were not emotional. Leave alone other warriors, Arjun’s own brothers were not emotional. They were fine with killing their relatives. Not everyone can be Arjun, who could make the lord himself respond and deliver exclusively for him, Shrimad Bhagwad Gita :Bhishma reconciled..Drona was his devastating self while fighting with Pandavas..Yudhishtir did not have a problem anytime in battlefield..I don’t need to mention Bhima…and twins.,..
Arjun was different…Of course naysayers can brand him as weak and emotional..But his anguish made him tower above others…in humanity,in compassion and in sensitivity..,Arjun represented all the good hearted humans. He is Narottam, the best among men. Now the answer..Other warriors did not deserve Gita. Arjuna deserved such spiritual enlightenment. By the way who could ask such intelligent questions and make Krishna answer elaborately? The questions he asked were so relevent that we all got proper answers..for instance..
In Sankhya Yoga Chapter 6 he asked : What will happen to those whose endeavour remains incomplete for different reasons? ( thank god he asked the question.)

Arjuna said: The faithful who deviates from the path of meditation and fails to attain yogic perfection due to unsubdued mind ? what is the destination of such a person, O Krishna? (6.37)

By virtue of the divine consciousness of his previous life, he automatically becomes attracted to the yogic principles—even without seeking them. Such an inquisitive transcendentalist, striving for yoga, stands always above the ritualistic principles of the scriptures. So there is hope that the spiritual journey continues birth after birth ….such a relief to hear..because we humans are prone to distractions and deviations …
Even Arjuna didn't know properly that Krishna was a God before he showed His Mahavishnu Virat Roop. Other characters who knew that Krishna was a God are - Vyasa - He had divine eyes from which he can easily get to know Krishna's Divine reality. Sanjaya - Before the Kurukshetra war Vyasa granted him *Divya Chakshva i.e *Divine vision . He also saw the Mahavishnu Roop of Krishna. Vidura- He was an enlightened man and easily could differentiate between Krishna and other people. Bhishma- He also knew that who Krishna really was . At the time of his deathbed when he was in his bed of arrows Krishna asked him if he worried for anything , he replied that one who has seen Hari will never be worried. Krishna just smiled. Karna - Before the war between Arjuna and Karna Krishna showed his Virat Roop to Karna . And earlier also Karna had the knowledge that Krishna was God because he never disrespected Him unlike Duryodhana who several times underestimated Krishna and called him gwala. Devki and Vasudev - They had a divine vision of Lord Vishnu when they were in prison. Yashoda - The foster mother of Krishna never realized that Krishna could be Narayana until one day , Krishna showed her the entire universe in His mouth . But , due to Maya she forgot all about it and her motherly devotion never changed . She never treated Krishna as a God. Jay Shri Krishna
Kunti - As she was the aunt of Krishna she saw all the Bal Leelas of Him and believed all the miraculous things happens to Vasudev. She was a Bhakta of Krishna. Gandhari - Gandhari was a great devotee of Lord shiva and so naturally she would have divine vision from which she can comprehend that Krishna was Lord Himself. Radha and other Gopikas - Of course they were very best to Krishna's heart . They had divine experience with Krishna a during Ras and realized Krishna was Vishnu.
Balarama - Balrama was Adishesha and so he would be aware of the fact that Krishna was the incarnation of Vishnu . Other Yadavas like Akrura also knew that Krishna was God. Well, you must surrender yourself to God and have full faith to see Him . Egoist and arrogant people like Duryodhana could not experience the Divinity of Lord Krishna. The great sages and rishis like Durvasa also knew Krishna's Divine personality. Even Devi Rukmini who was the incarnation of Lakshmi also knew that He is Shri Hari.
