DevOpsDays is Back!
This week I attended DevOpsDays in Copenhagen and Zurich, so I thought I’d share a few things I picked up on my travels…
DevOpsDays is Back!
The most positive takeaway I got was the feeling that the community is BACK! Both events were sold out, had full sponsor attendance, and lots of great talks from the local community and around the world.? After the covid years, it was great to see everyone coming together again.??
Favorite Learning
The 5 minute ignite talks are always great fun, but one in particular stood out.? Iris Hunkeler gave an excellent talk about DevOps, ClickOps, GitOps, CloudOps, AIOps… making sense of the Buzzword-Bingo.? I’ll share the recording as soon as it is posted, but I’ll summarize from memory a profound point she made about our terminology:
What about DevSecOps? BizDevOps? FinOps? Doesn’t DevOps include these things? Of course they do! But… these terms highlight what the main devops adoption challenge an organization faces.? So if someone tells you about their DevSecOps transformation, you know that security is a big focus.? And if you hear of a BizDevOps program, you know a major challenge is including the business in the technology value stream.
I’ve never heard it put like this before, and it really makes sense to me.? So thanks Iris!
The need for Governance Engineering
In both events, there was an open space session around regulated DevOps.? There were a lot of folks there - all struggling in the same way: Compliance doesn’t understand tech, and tech doesn’t understand regulations/risk.

My key takeaways from the session were:
Tell me if you’ve heard this one before:
Luckily, we know how to solve this problem: Culture, Automation, Lean and Sharing.? Let’s do the Dev<->Ops thing with Governance<->Engineering!?
Speaker gifts
One final thing, I have to say is that the speaker gifts are really getting creative! Big thanks to the volunteers in the Copenhagen and Zurich organizers for a wonderful time and lovely souvenirs ??.? We’ll have to get our thinking caps on for our DevOpsDays Oslo event!

1 年I'm so glad you enjoyed my ignite talk, Mike! I had a lot of fun with your talk about Terrorforms and GitHopes, too. I really can't resist good puns ??

1 年Every event we go to it seems there's more and more people talking about this conflict between engineering (let's go fast and ship stuff) and governance (wait a sec, are we following the rules?)
