DevOPS implementation - Practical approach

#DevOPS #Agile #Automation #BlamelessCulture #CrossfunctionalTeams #IncrementalDelivery #CICD #ContinuousLearning

I am planning to share, through series of posts, my knowledge and thoughts around DevOPS based on real-time personal experience. I chose this topic, because #Automation is one area that triggers lots of interests and pushes me to learn new things. I believe through this I can solicit feedback, inputs from my network to learn continuously and share (like a community of practice).

My team has been automating the delivery process since 2014 – when we started CDC – Cloud Delivery Centre – in one of my earlier roles. Primary objective of CDC was to deliver incremental value to our clients by incorporating factory model “migration” of workloads to the target environments(mostly Cloud). Essentially we built assembly lines with process (for respective workloads like Java workload, DotNet workload, VM – VM, VM – Cloud et al), toolsets (AppZero, PlateSpin, DoubleTake et al) and cross functional teams (with knowledge on coding, design, infrastructure, testing et al). By then we were not referring our delivery approach as DevOPS instead “Factory Model”. Definitely saw some success.

Since then in one or other way I am connected with #Automation (mostly through IT Automation & Business Process Automation) and continue to learn (mostly online).

To start with DevOPS journey….come up with outcome based road map (something similar to below) and improvise as you progressively evolve.

Define a solution delivery approach (something similar to the below...)

These are just to have some direction and the real outcome is based on a good execution strategy.

More to follow....
