Sharing an approach to DevOps vision statement as your organizations start their DevOps transformation journey. You can similarly append it to include DevSecOps. This is not be all end all, but will enable you on alignment with your executive teams.
Vision and Mission Statement:
To standardize adoption of DevOps practices for the purpose of delivering value to our stakeholders efficiently through continuous flow across enterprise. We will do this by enabling organization’s development and operation teams with people, processes, tools and provide mentoring & training. Our processes will further institute DevOps culture, industry best practices, break silo’s, instill cross function collaboration and shared ownership between various functions within the organization.
Objectives:
- Become a DevOps Organization
- Establish appropriate governance that ensure the usage of DevOps systems adhere to corporate standards
- Aligning strategic goals to tactical steps.
- Identify best practices from early adopter teams to build the strategic foundation
- Develop a self-service model for onboarding and utilizing the DevOps processes & tooling allowing teams to become self managing
- Establish strong community of practice for knowledge and shared learning
- Creation or acquisition of appropriate mentoring & training for the systems in our DevOps pipeline
Key Outcomes:
- Development and publication of key Organizations DevOps principles
- Defined an iterative roadmap and supporting KPIs
- Embed DevOps practices into current Agile teams (note: DevOps is not a separate team)
- Standardized approach to DevOps including tooling and usage guidelines
- Architect for continuous delivery pipeline with continues integration, continuous deployment and release on demand
- Create lean flow processes within values steam by identifying and removing waste that slows speed to value
- Standardize metrics for measuring and monitoring success
- Institutional knowledge of how DevOps teams best operate
- Develop people for the future
