Event Recap
Another well attended and interesting event on DevOps raised a lot of discussion in the chat and we hope you enjoyed the talks.
We do listen and if you have feedback or suggestions for topics or speakers we love to hear from you and we will keep this in mind for a future event.
You can message me in private and discuss if you would like to get involved or you can add your idea, feedback or suggestion in the comments section.
?? New Links available
I have added my LinkedIn details at the bottom of the newsletter to message/connect with me if you wish to discuss any ideas, topics or feedback in private, you can still use the comments if you wish to public a comment for others.
Also added at the bottom of the newsletter is a new link to our YouTube Channel where you can find replays of our previous events.
If you want to review a particular slide or presentation we make most presentations decks available in our #presentations channel on our slack page.
DevOps Resources
This is a list of software (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS, etc.) and other offerings that have free tiers for developers.
Gagan Kakkar has kindly supplied the following website: free-for.dev
The scope of this particular list is limited to things that infrastructure developers (System Administrator, DevOps Practitioners, etc.) are likely to find useful. We love all the free services out there, but it would be good to keep it on topic. It's a bit of a grey line at times so this is a bit opinionated; do not be offended if I do not accept your contribution.
This list is the result of Pull Requests, reviews, ideas and work done by 1100+ people.
API's (Application Programming Interface) - All you need to Know
After our most recent event on DevOps for the Mainframe I feel rather inundated in a good way with offers of useful links, hints and tips.
One of the topics discussed was the use of API's and I have added a list of 13 useful guides on using API's to the Guides & Tips document at the bottom of the newsletter.
Many thanks go to Shubham Upadhyay who has collated the links.
Have IBM had their Chips?
Chipmaker GlobalFoundries is suing IBM, claiming Big Blue unlawfully shared semiconductor trade secrets with Intel Corporation and new Japanese chip consortium Rapidus Corporation.
A few recents reports have suggested that the Chip market could become a market to watch in the next few years as new chip makers enter the industry.
Thank you to Matthew Gooding for the Tech Radar story.

Stack overflow joins Reddit and Twitter in charging AI companies for training data
Any of you who have accessed the google doc list of useful links at the bottom of the newsletter, will know that we have a link to StackOverflow listed in our list of helpful resources for you.
StackOverflow has now joined Reddit and Twitter in Charging AI companies for training their models on their data.
?? ?? You can read more here:
In addition the stackoverflow website has also taken the step of banning ChatGPT generated text for content on Stack Overflow.
Stackoverflow has issued guidance around this: Why posting GPT and ChatGPT generated answers is not currently acceptable.
?? ?? You can read more here:
It does make me wonder if we may see more issues with using ChatGPT based on where the data that the ChatGPT or alternative model has been trained on.
A question that I am asking myself is if I use ChatGPT to create a skeleton program, is whether this will potentially become an issue at a later time, if ChatGPT has been used.
If you have any thoughts on this I would love to know what everybody thinks about this.
?? Just for fun {mainframe & non-mainframe}
The Clone Wars, Attack of the Clones call it what you like but there is a new Hack out "Voice Clone Attacks"
A very interesting article I have just been reading is on bank security and how voice authorisation can be compromised by AI.
When you call the bank creates a voiceprint, a digital representation of your voice that’s made up of over 100 different identifying characteristics.
This voiceprint is even more unique than a fingerprint, and it has always been assumed that it is secure and can’t be imitated.
With modern technology developing at an ever faster pace this technology has now been compromised.

ChatGPT - Write me a Sonnet about the Mainframe
?? Trevor Eddolls was one of the first people I spoke to when I wrote my first newsletter, I asked for stories about the mainframe that I could share and he shared lots of great stories with me, gave me encouragement and helped me.
Like me Trevor has recently been looking at the capabilities of ChatGPT for fun and he shared an article he wrote which I have summarised below asking ChatGPT to write a mainframe sonnet:-
Trevor for those of you who don't know also creates a number of great mainframe posts and is a wealth of information, he posts great stories and content on his profile on LinkedIn.
A recital of the mainframe Sonnet above read by PJ Catalano

ChatGPT telling Mainframe Jokes
Q. How do mainframes stay in shape?
A. They do a lot of core exercises!
Q. Why did the mainframe get a job as a locksmith?
A. Because it was good at processing keys.
It's fair to say if you ask ChatGPT to tell you some mainframe jokes some of them are not funny and some appear to be negative towards the mainframe. I have been trying to share the odd joke I thought was interesting.
ChatGPT what's in a name
If like me you have been experimenting with ChatGPT you may have found that it appears ChatGPT does not know what the z in z/OS stands for.
As mainframerz we all know 'z' stands for zero downtime, which surprises me that ChatGPT would not know this.

1 年It was my first participation at a MainframerZ meetup and I enjoyed it immensely, I had to leave about 30% in and was waiting eagerly for the recording. I was not disappointed ?? I especially liked the DevOps piece, I do have to point out that at Standard Life around the 99/00 timeframe, I was working in "Multiplatform Support" and our management had a great idea to form a "handover team" Basically a team comprising multi skilled people to assist in a smoother handover from Development to Operations ..... hmmm maybe we should have called that DevOps ??
