DevOps Center in Salesforce

DevOps Center in Salesforce

DevOps, which stands for Development and Operations, is a blend of guiding principles and cultural values designed to automate and unite the tasks of developing software and managing IT operations.

Its goal is to accelerate the software development process, enhance its quality and streamline delivery.

The Salesforce DevOps Center is crafted to assist the release of Salesforce updates by offering tools like visual development pipelines and integration with GitHub for source control, among other valuable features.

The DevOps Center helps manage Salesforce changes effectively using modern best practices, making work smoother for admins and developers.

According to Karen Fidelak, Salesforce DevOps Center Product Manager, the Salesforce DevOps Center focuses on improving change and release management, as well as bringing DevOps best practices to our entire community, no matter where you stand on the low-code to pro-code scale.

Installing Salesforce DevOps Center

User permission needed to install and configure the DevOps Center is "Download AppExchange Packages"

Installation Steps:

  • Navigate to the setup menu and search for "DevOps Center."
  • Locate the DevOps Center toggle button.
  • Enable the DevOps Center toggle button.
  • Accept the License agreement pop-up when prompted.

  • Click on the Install Package button to Install the DevOps Center

  • Select Install for Admin only and Click "Install"

  • Upon successful installation, you will receive a confirmation email with the subject line: "Package DevOps Center Install Successful."
  • You can also spot the newly installed DevOps Center package in the Installed Packages section.

Please note that DevOps Center cannot be installed in a sandbox environment.

Unlike certain other packages, DevOps Center does not interact with your organization's existing data or metadata.

To assess the DevOps Center, enable and install it in a Developer Edition org or a scratch org.

Keep in mind that scratch orgs have expiration dates.

You have the flexibility to choose whether to install it in the final release org within your pipeline or in a separate, independent org.

After installation, connect DevOps Center to your development, testing, and final release environments.

Grant the appropriate permissions to users in the Salesforce org to enable their use of the DevOps Center.
