DevOps: Catalyst of modern execution
Needless to say, how different teams and departments of an organisation that are working independently in silos with a lack of communication and collaboration, can not only create significant inefficiencies but can prove to be fatal in the long run.
Especially, in today’s hyper-connected world, even small glitches or inefficiencies in your executions can impact adversely your business widely and deeply losing business, competitive advantage and most importantly your - reputation.
That is why, today, what every organisation strive for is – an “effective execution” of their strategy. This is possible only through a glue that ties various teams and departments together. That glue is – DevOps.
Traditionally, there are 3 core pillars of execution – strategy, people and operations. Now, in the last few years, the rise of DevOps has added a new dimension to it. Effective DevOps can be a game changer for any organisation.
Today, the more effective you have your DevOps, the more you are maximising efficiency in business. While vision and strategy are essential, they are meaningless without effective execution and more importantly effective DevOps.

By implementing practices like continuous integration, automated testing, and collaboration between engineering and operations teams, you not only address the classical “wastes” early and inefficiencies of the execution but also create a culture of high-performing organisations.
DevOps, guided by the CALMS framework, offers a holistic approach to improving collaboration, automation, lean principles, measurement, and sharing within organisations. It fosters a culture of collaboration and “shared responsibility” among development, operations, and other stakeholders. It streamlines repetitive tasks and accelerates the (software) delivery pipeline through automation. It eliminates waste and optimises workflows to maximise efficiency and productivity. It uses metrics and analytics to measure performance and drive continuous improvement. It encourages knowledge-sharing and collaboration to facilitate learning and innovation.
I came across a very good book, no actually, a novel on this topic and will recommend it to all who are interested to know the power of DevOps, a must read: "The Phoenix Project" by Gene Kim
