In the last decade, it has become a credible decision for DevOps to be used by organisations who are looking to adapt and create an agile business model. We have seen more and more companies adopt the DevOps culture and over the next decade near to every tech company will have some form of DevOps function running within the business.
DevOps is maturing, in recent years more organisations have been working as cross-functional teams with DevOps remaining at the heart of it all. Becoming more product-focussed then project-led, cross-functional teams are creating long-term solutions while taking on more responsibility for the products that they create, taking them from conception to fruition.
Benefits of having a DevOps function:
DevOps enables organisations to:
- Reduce the implementation time of new services from months to days
- Increase productivity of business and IT teams
- Save costs on maintenance and upgrades, and eliminate unnecessary capital expenditure
- Standardise processes for easy replication and faster delivery
- Improve quality, reliability and reusability of all system components
- Increase the rate of success for digitalisation strategies and transformation projects
- Ensure that money invested in cloud infrastructure, analytics and data management are not wasted
The best benefits of implementing a DevOps working environment is the fact that there are multiple areas that the DevOps lifecycle cover. Migration to the cloud, Continuous integration & deployment: focus on software-defined lifecycles that emphasise automation, harness security & data protection etc.,(see below the list goes on). The goal of DevOps is to change & improve the relationship by advocating better communication & collaboration between development & IT operations.
Technology is evolving frequently and changes on a month by month basis, thus meaning companies need to keep up to date and have the infrastructure in place where changes can move quickly & efficiently. DevOps accelerates the process to deliver applications & software services at high speed & high velocity.
So are we going to be seeing an increase in the next decade where DevOps will be an essential function for a business to be efficient & up to date?
I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts!

4 年Cannot be answered in generic terms. It depends and there is nothing like THE DevOps. So, whoever is asking this question needs to learn about IT and his or her own business first to come up with the Status Quo and the future goals to be achieved. Then we can have a discussion that matters.
