DEVIN HANEY SHUTS DOWN GEORGE KAMBOSOS JR. TO REMAIN UNDISPUTED LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPION

Devin Haney left no question on who is the king of the lightweight division (for now)

It's not the fight Devin Haney wanted. Still, it's the one he was?obligated to take as he put?the IBF, WBA (super), WBC, and WBO belts on the line Saturday (October 15th 2022) against George Kambosos Jr. from?Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia. Just four months ago the two went toe to toe. They concluded a one-sided yet slow fight, Haney resulted a clear winner, if the rematch showed us anything it was that he is still improving.

Haney showed why he's the undisputed lightweight champion by outclassing Kambosos from start to finish with superior boxing, adjusting on the fly, and showing the power many fans have wanted to see from him to win by unanimous decision (119-109, 118-110, 118-110). I scored the fight 118-110 for Haney. Many still question Haney's power as he was not able to finish Kambosos, but credit must be given to Kambosos for surviving a brutal beatdown for the entire 12 round bout.

Kambosos came out, switching stances in an attempt to confuse Haney. It took two rounds for Haney to figure out Kambosos' rhythm and timing. Haney reaffirmed what he did four months ago for the remaining ten rounds. He fought mostly standing in the middle of the ring, blasting the jab, sitting on his punches, and blasting one power shot after another.?

The attack stymied Kambosos, who looked confused and had a secondary plan after Haney neutralized the first one to lose his second consecutive fight to "The Dream".

Haney has plenty of options but only one seems obvious. He could move up to 140 pounds but he should remain at 135 and wait for fights against either Gervonta Davis, Ryan Garcia, or Vasiliy Lomachenko, not only will their be a bigger payday looming, he can then add some clarity as to who is the best p4p fighter among them all. Haney, who seems eager to be on the Espn p4p list, has a competitor in Lomachenko who is not only on the list now, but he is also in the same weight-class without any belts.

“We’re taking on all-comers,” Haney said in his post-fight interview. “No matter who it is, we want to fight the best fighters in the world. I believe I’m the best fighter in the world. Whoever it is next, bring ‘em on."

The boxing world would greatly benefit from a Haney-Lomachenko fight, and a Garcia-Davis fight, with the winners having a showdown for all the belts.
