The Devil is not in the Details
There are those times when we are asked what our leadership style is. Since this is usually during an interview, we give a well rehearsed answer that sweeps the panel off their feet. Many of us know how to describe ourselves as great experts of the different leadership styles we admire. We do it so well we could be arrested for impersonation or misrepresentation.
I am still and will always be a student of leadership. However, right from childhood even until now, there is a lesson that keeps being repeatedly underlined in my book of leadership notes. Being a first born child does not automatically make you leader over your siblings. They have to vote for you mentally before they can allow you to "pick" on them. Fighting over toys was not what taught me this. It was the results I got when I strategically acted a certain way that helped me discover the tricks of winning over my siblings' hearts.
Being a Prime Minister does not automatically make you the best leader of the nation. You have to prove yourself everyday over and over again for your name to be even remembered when you leave office. What am I trying to drive at here?
To be a leader that produces results with excellence, you have to prove to yourself first that you are the leader the world deserves. Yes, it all starts in your mind but this has to quickly show in your personal life. Would your bed vote you for that top position you are in or are dreaming of? Would your office desk defend you when your opposition says you are not good enough? How about your toothbrush? See, it is not what you try to convince the world to believe. It is who you convince your mind to be. If you believe you are the next big thing, prove it even in the bathroom. Do not expect your mind to perform miracles in front of others that it has not seen you do in private. Your leadership style is "your leadership" style.
Believe it or not, YOU are in the Details!
