deVere-backed sled helps Britain secure fourth at Bobsleigh World Championships

It is like real-life Cool Runnings, the film based on the true story of the Jamaica national bobsleigh team’s debut in the 1988 Winter Olympics in Canada.

A week ago, there was a story on the BBC about Brad Hall. He was a contender for the world bobsleigh championships in Canada. But he couldn’t raise the money and the UK government wouldn’t fund him.

But deVere stepped-up. We decided to back him as a company, and he was super delighted and very grateful. Also, it turns out his girlfriend’s brother works for deVere in Milan.

The result has been astonishing for Team GB. On Sunday, Brad Hall and Nick Gleeson registered a best British finish in 53 years in the World Championship two-man bobsleigh event in Canada – using a deVere Group-sponsored sled.

Without it, it would have been “like Lewis Hamilton driving a Peugeot 106 in Formula 1” Brad told the BBC on Sunday as he took fourth place, narrowly missing the third.

James Green, deVere Group’s Divisional Manager of Western Europe, comments:

“We’re incredibly proud of Brad and Nick. The phenomenal result is testament to their hard work, dedication, and enormous talent. We’re delighted for them and Team GB. We hope that our backing has helped them follow their dreams. This is just the beginning and we look forward to seeing them on the podium with medals in the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.”

UK Sport previously withdrew funding for the bobsleigh programme after GB teams failed to challenge for a medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics.

The success on Sunday might now be enough to convince UK Sport to reinvest in the programme moving towards the next games in three years’ time.

Great Britain has won the two-man world event twice before.

Enormous congratulations to Brad and Nick!
