Sandybae: Yho gurl! How was church today?
Me: I couldn’t go o Charlie
Sandybae: Una dey backslide o
Me: Abeg e be only today sha. So wetin your pastor talk?
Sandybae: “Nobody became prayerful by praying once a month” said my pastor. I totally agree with him, because talk of the great preachers across the globe, I’m not sure they got to where they are now by talking to God and reading the word once in a while. They were consistent.
Me: Hallelujah somebody! Hehe
And, and, yeah, that’s it! That's the conversation that inspired today’s post. CONSISTENCY is key in this natural hair journey especially as it relates to developing a regimen. If you don’t think you can be consistent then please don’t just stop reading this, also lower your expectations.
Your hair cannot be mocked, the effort you put into caring for it equates the results you get.
You can only be consistent if you have a goal in mind. What is/are your hair goal(s)? Is it length or health? For me, my focus was on having a healthy hair when I started sticking to a regimen and as it became healthy it surely did grow long.
On sharing my regimen in the last post, someone said it looks like a lot of work. And I totally agree but that is only when you are starting out, with time it becomes part of your lifestyle. Sis, if you want something so badly you will find your way out.
Anyway, who says you can’t outsource some of the stuff in your regimen. I had a client who happened to be a banker; she had a busy schedule yet she had a great regimen. Most of the hair stuff in her regimen is done by her hair dresser. She just has to drive in.
Shall we dive into the routines?
Night time
It’s very imperative to protect your hair as you sleep. Silk/satin scarf or hair bonnet is your sure bet because they are hair friendly and does not suck the moisture out of your hair like the cotton pillow case, bed spread and scarf does. It also protects your hairstyle from getting messy real quick.
This is a must do whether you are wearing your hair in a puff or braids. It will save you the friction and prevent frizz. You can also try doing a scalp massage or moisturizing your hair and keeping it over night so that it’s well moisturized when you wake up since you’ll be away from the sun.
Morning
You wouldn’t have much to do when you are in a protective style or did most of the work before bed. Some generous amount of mist or H20 sprayed in there can take you through the day.
Weekly
You can decide how many times in the week you will be doing a scalp massage and whether in the evenings or mornings.
Phone rings
My boss is calling and you know what that means. Wash-day is next when I get back. Stay tuned and feel free to let me know in the comments if you are getting value.
