Developing the Right Mentality

Developing the Right Mentality

You don’t get rid of something by avoiding it, but only by crossing it “

Many times, we heard from colleagues that they will do their best once when they get the promotion they are waiting for; will give their best shot when their dream company hires them or when their situation at work changes to their favor. What if that condition won't come? Isn't better to bloom where we are currently "Planted" and maybe as a result, these conditions will come eventually?

Many people feel that their thoughts are beyond their control. For example, if you're unhappy with your current company, you do not have to see your situation as wholly negative. You could also see your disdain for your current job as motivation to get your career on track, or view your position as a stepping stone toward your dream job.

Change is necessary to progress. If things always stayed the same, there would be no personal growth or forward motion. Be on the lookout for opportunities and ways you can change your current situation.

One great way to bloom in any circumstances is to always be on the lookout for life lessons. Even bad situations come with lessons. If you, say, relocated for work and hate your current job, think about what you could learn. Maybe this will be a lesson in resiliency.

There are always areas to change and improve in any situation. Avoid complaining about unfavorable circumstances. For example, instead of complaining about work, try to improve your skills for the job you do want or actively send out applications to other employers. The key is to not develop a victim mentality.

Thinking about what could happen in the future, or what you could have done differently in the past, can distract you from blooming in the present. Life begins outside your comfort zone. If you never step outside your comfort zone, then you will never really see what's possible. We need to re-educate our brain so that you can progressively associates positive emotions with that particular activity. Basically, you have to take a little whim every time you make progress.

Always keep the big picture in mind if you want to bloom. If you begin feeling lost, frustrated, or unhappy, remind yourself of your larger goals. Your mind will naturally focus on opportunities that may help you reach your goals.
