Developing & Refining a Style of Art: Artbygordon.com
Twenty plus years ago, I had an interview with a gallery owner. I knew he would be absolutely amazed at my style and work: enter the first stage of humility and education.
A young artist often works within a vacuum, if no one is either honest or knowledgeable enough to critique their work. Even with a honest critique, a lot of art is subjective to the viewer.
How does an artist learn their own worth in the industry and their own level of skill? The answer depends on the viewer but more than that, What is the artist trying to accomplish?
This is where style and technique develop. I knew what I was interested in, I knew the techniques and execution that interested me but developing a style has taken some time. I have gone from darkness, to bright colors and back, detail to figurative, realism to impressionistic.
I have just recently begun to truly define what I want to show and I how I want the viewer to feel when they view my art.
This is the first of several articles on developing that style and technique and the future of Artbygordon.com.
