Developing a Positive Health and Safety Mindset: The Key to a Successful Health and Safety Programme with the PPP, SafetyWallet and MAKROSAFE
This week, we will discuss Health and Safety Programs with the "PPP" incorporated into the OHS Online Software, available to SafetyWallet Subscribers, and developing a positive Health and Safety mindset around implementing and managing Health and safety in the Workplace.
Tomorrow, 1 February 2023, marks a significant milestone for our Group as we officially launch our Policies, Procedures, and Practices (PPP) programme into OHS Online, our Health and Safety Cloud-based management system.?
The implementation of the PPP programme represents our commitment to promoting a safe and healthy work environment for all of our employees to serve our Purpose of “We believe in making sure your loved ones return home healthy and safe after work”.
In light of this, I would like to take a moment to emphasise the important role that Policies, Procedures, and Practices play in creating and maintaining a successful?health and safety programme.?
The PPP programme will help you minimise risk, promote a culture of safety, and ultimately, create a safer and healthier workplace for all employees.?Having the right attitude towards health and safety can significantly impact the success of a health and safety programme and its ability to?reduce risks, prevent incidents, and promote a safe and healthy work environment.?
In the following points I will be exploring the role that policies, procedures, and mindset play in forming the right attitude towards health and safety.
Policies: Setting the Tone for Health and Safety
Policies are the foundation of a health and safety programme, providing clear expectations and standards for behaviours, allocating resources, and communicating the importance of health and safety. Policies serve as the basis for decision-making and serve to encourage active participation and engagement.?
They help establish the consequences for non-compliance and reinforce our shared values and culture. Policies play a critical role in promoting a positive attitude towards health and safety by demonstrating the organisation's commitment and reinforcing the importance of safety and health.
Procedures: Ensuring Consistent Application of Policies
Procedures play a critical role in ensuring the consistent application of policies and serve as the primary source of guidance and instruction for employees. Procedures provide step-by-step instructions and guidance, helping employees understand their responsibilities and the actions required to carry out tasks safely.?
Procedures support effective training and communication, reinforce the importance of safety and health, and demonstrate the organisation's commitment to health and safety. By providing clear instructions and guidance, procedures help build confidence in the programme and reinforce positive attitudes towards health and safety.
Mindset: The Key to a Positive Attitude towards Health and Safety
The mindset of employees and management is a critical factor in forming the right attitude towards health and safety. Mindset is shaped by a range of factors including emotional intelligence, perception and interpretation of risk and danger, prior experiences, social and cultural influences, self-awareness, motivation and values, and cognitive biases.?
A positive mindset towards health and safety is characterised by a commitment to following policies and procedures, openness to continuous improvement and feedback, active participation and engagement, responsibility and accountability, recognition of the importance of safety and health, and willingness to comply with regulations and industry standards.
Forming the Right Attitude through Training and Development
Training and education?are essential to forming the right attitude towards health and safety. Regular training helps employees understand their responsibilities, the importance of health and safety, and the actions required to carry out tasks safely. Education provides opportunities for employees to develop new skills, understand the latest industry practices, and stay up-to-date with changing regulations.?
By providing regular training and education, employees can develop the right attitude towards health and safety, become more engaged in the programme, and contribute to the success of the health and safety programme.

Encouraging Open Communication and Collaboration
Open communication and collaboration are critical to forming the right attitude towards health and safety. Encouraging employees to share their thoughts and experiences helps build trust, promotes engagement, and fosters a positive and supportive work environment.?
Regular risk assessment and?incident analysis?provide opportunities for employees to contribute to continuous improvement and provide feedback on the effectiveness of the health and safety programme.?
By encouraging open communication and collaboration, employees are more likely to become engaged in the programme, understand the importance of health and safety, and develop the right attitude towards health and safety.
Fostering a Culture of Safety and Continuous Improvement
Fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement is critical to forming the right attitude towards health and safety. A culture of safety is characterised by a commitment to reducing risks, preventing incidents, and promoting a safe and healthy work environment. Continuous improvement is an ongoing process that involves regular review, assessment, and improvement of the health and safety programme.?
By fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement, employees are encouraged to actively participate and engage in the program, understand the importance of health and safety, and develop the right attitude towards health and safety.
In?Conclusion
Forming the right attitude towards health and safety is essential to the success of SafetyWallet's Health and Safety programme. A combination of policies, procedures, practices and a positive mindset plays a crucial role in ensuring a safe and healthy work environment for employees.?
Policies provide the foundation for the SafetyWallet programme, while procedures ensure consistent application. Meanwhile, a positive mindset fostered through regular training, education, open communication, and a culture of safety and continuous improvement is key to active engagement and participation.?
It is important for organisations to take an active approach in promoting a positive attitude towards health and safety, as this not only benefits employees but also contributes to the overall success of the programme.?
Additionally, a positive attitude towards health and safety is a result of a combination of past experiences, thoughts, feelings, and beliefs, all of which influence behaviour, relationships, and the realities created. Thus, it is crucial to cultivate a positive attitude towards health and safety to achieve a safe and healthy work environment.
