Developing the next generation of the nuclear decommissioning workforce

Next week it’s Nuclear Industry Association’s ‘Nuclear Week in Parliament’. The NDA group will be attending and hosting a series of events across the week to highlight decommissioning progress, skills and innovation across the UK nuclear sector.

Meet some of the apprentices and graduates that will be representing the NDA group at the Skills and Apprenticeship Fair, where they will be engaging with parliamentarians and explaining first-hand how the NDA group are developing the next generation of the nuclear decommissioning workforce.

Gruff is a nuclear worker apprentice at Nuclear Restoration Services. After a professional career in road cycling, he joined the NDA group as a Nuclear Worker Apprentice at Trawsfynydd, studying radiological protection.

"I’m really enjoying the process of understanding how the site works and what the exciting future in nuclear holds!"

Rachel is a degree apprentice at Sellafield, working in the Legacy Ponds Retrievals team and is passionate about supporting the NDA group’s mission.

“The NDA group is leading the most complex decommissioning challenges faced by the UK to make sure we leave our environment clean and safe for future generations.”

Molly, a sustainability apprentice at Nuclear Waste Services, joined the NDA group as she wanted to join an organisation that held the same values and beliefs as her.

“I felt it was an organisation where I would be valued for my work and input, and this has been proven while working in my position.”

Bradley is a design engineering apprentice at Nuclear Transport Solutions. After finishing his A-levels, Bradley knew he wanted to go down the engineering route and after finding a degree apprenticeship at NTS he has never looked back!

“I have a great team around me who are always willing to support me, whether it’s design work or degree work.”

Eve is a communications graduate at the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority. After finishing University, Eve wanted to be part of the NDA group’s nationally important and challenging mission.

“Since joining the programme I have had exposure to different areas of the business, which has helped me determine my areas of interest. The support and opportunities on offer are fantastic.
