?My Perspective
In today’s interconnected world, the need for physicians who view themselves as citizens of humanity is paramount. Medical schools, like Montana College of Osteopathic Medicine, that commit to teaching this perspective are not just shaping competent healthcare professionals, they are cultivating leaders in global health equity. By establishing tracks focused on serving rural and underserved populations, as well as global health, the institution fosters a profound sense of responsibility in the students. They learn to understand and address the complex social determinants of health that disproportionately affect marginalized communities. This approach goes beyond traditional medical education by equipping future physicians with the empathy, cultural competence, and global awareness necessary to advocate for and implement changes that improve lives irrespective of geographical boundaries. These experiences are invaluable; they give medical students a broadened worldview, enabling them to deliver care that is informed, compassionate, and holistic.
?
Other medical schools can emulate this model by integrating public health, ethics, and cultural competency into their curricula, underscoring the importance of health equity. They can establish partnerships with organizations serving rural and global communities to provide students with hands-on experiences. Moreover, fostering a culture that values diversity and inclusion within the student body and faculty will further ensure that students are not just medical experts, but also champions for health justice.
By doing so, they will produce culturally competent physicians who not only possess the skills to address the medical needs of diverse populations but are also leaders committed to the service of humanity. These graduates will be well-equipped to tackle health disparities and ensure that all patients, regardless of their background or location, receive the highest standard of care.

Looking ahead, Dr. Moore expressed his desire for a learning partnership that fosters ongoing relationships and mutual teaching between the Montana College of Osteopathic Medicine and the Gambia. He envisions regular exchanges that allow for personal interaction and community engagement, believing that these experiences will yield significant benefits for all involved.

The Power of Connection
?
As we wrapped up our conversation, I reflected on the importance of true connection in achieving global health goals. Dr. Moore's commitment to the Gambia project is a shining example of how personal dedication can lead to transformative partnerships.
