Developers should consider switching to Windows?
When Apple introduced M1, it took the entire computing industry by storm. The unified chip offered power to the content creators and and gaming programers. But for the regular application developers what has changed? I think it added more speed for app developers but beyond that I am not too sure. Oh yes they also added an HDMI slot for top of the line Macbook Pro.?
With an integrated Co-pilot in windows (Officially available from June), I am beginning to reconsider the Windows usage for my work. I am a Mac user from last 5 years or so. I loved its Dev set up stability. Hated its multi windows management and lack of support for dual monitors. You know you cant drag and drop a window from one monitor to another if you are in full screen? And there is no keyboard shortcut. The slack notifications disappear on Mac. Not sure if you have faced it. It could be issue with the Slack but all these things work smoothly in windows (at least for me). Multi monitor usage on windows is a breeze.?
In my day to day work, I write a lot of ACDs, LLDs and good amount of presentations in addition to coding. Now, co-pilot being there, my ACDs first reviewer is available at my finger tips. Not sure if windows plan to offer co-pilot for Office suite for MAC in which case we can enjoy it in Mac as well. But AI as co-pilot is good enough reason for me to fall back to Windows. I am beginning the process of evaluation after the Co-pilot's official launch in June. Stay tuned for more practical details.?

Before closing, lets think for a moment what it means for Apple? I mean if Windows adoption increases in Dev community then how should Apple go about it? I think one simple thing they can readily do is to bring down the price of Macs. With every new Mac introduction they should reduce the price and ensure all the Slots like HDMI, Type C are there for every product :). They can not build a AI tool over night. Microsoft made a good come back specially after loosing the battle on Mobile (I know they didn't built but they grabbed one!). The AI powered Microsoft is unstoppable I feel as of now. But who knows the future?
What about you guys? Are you considering Windows over Mac for development? Linux guys! what about you?

1 年Apple's main market has been the creative types - photo and video editors, bloggers, and content creators. The dev ecosystem adopted it due to its Linux base, which I don't believe was intentional from Apple. Microsoft's hardware support has always been questionable, but they are at a tipping point now. They tried to improve this with the Surface laptops but could not eat into Apple's share. There are still quite a few improvements to be made to Windows but if they also introduce hardware that is comparable to Apple's in quality and reliability (I have a personal 2015 MacBook Air that works like a breeze ?? It's my favorite device), Microsoft can definitely win over the "work laptop" market, considering how intuitive and user-friendly Office 365 is ??
