Develop Your Leadership Skills from a Young Age

When we hear "leadership" we often picture CEOs, politicians, or teachers. But, think again! Leadership isn’t just about titles - it’s about character and a specific set of habits and behaviours that are developed over time.

And it’s much better if these behaviours are developed from a young age.

A leader is a person who guides and inspires others. Their role is not only limited to giving orders, no. They must lead by example and facilitate or support the success of a team or community by empowering the people within it.

For example, at Reach A Hand Uganda, we have the Peer Educators Academy where young people are trained to become leaders by empowering their peers to make informed life decisions about sex, peer pressure, mental health, relationships etc. - and this is how they demonstrate leadership in their lives and communities.

Leadership is also about kindness, empathy, emotional intelligence, and problem-solving.

These are all skills you'll need no matter what you want to do in life.

Leadership begins with leadership of self - or self-leadership. This is about discipline, commitment and honouring your promises and responsibilities. Once you can lead yourself, you are on the right path to leading others.

How can you start to work towards developing your own leadership skills? Get involved in clubs, sports, or even student leadership. That way, you learn how to work with others, make tough calls, and handle responsibilities.

Volunteering in your community is another awesome way to develop your skills. Set goals, manage your time, and stay focused.

And hey; don't be afraid to ask for help! Find a mentor who can guide you and share their wisdom with you. Over time, you'll become a confident and inspiring leader!

Once again, you don't need a formal title to be a leader. You can show leadership in all kinds of ways! At school, lend a helping hand, and do your part in group projects.

And with your friends, be supportive, plan fun activities, and encourage them to make good choices by advising against getting involved in vices like underage sex, smoking, drinking and taking drugs.

No matter where you are or what you're doing, you have the power to inspire and influence others.

So go ahead, be a leader!

Well said! Then also we should advice young people against betting as it can lead to stress whereby one turns to drugs for relief
