Develop launches new NRSWA course for Inspections & Audits

We are excited to announce the launch of our new course, NRSWA (Street Works) Inspections – Safety, Quality, and Compliance. This two-day training course is designed to equip professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively inspect and audit street works, ensuring that all operations adhere to the highest standards of safety, quality, and compliance.

Who Should Attend?

The course is ideal for a range of professionals involved in the planning, management, and execution of street works inspections and audits, including:

  • Inspectors and auditors
  • Team leaders and supervisors
  • Senior managers within Highway (or Roads) Authorities or their agents
  • Statutory Undertaker representatives and their contractual agents
  • Independent Street Works quality assurance organisations
  • Contractors operating under NRSWA s50 licenses

Why This Course is Essential

Many inspectors and auditors learn their roles on the job. While this hands-on experience is invaluable, it often lacks a structured foundation of formal training that ensures consistency and thorough understanding of regulations and best practices. The NRSWA Inspections course addresses this gap by providing a comprehensive framework of knowledge and skills that delegates can immediately apply in their roles. The course serves as a crucial starting point, especially for new starters, ensuring they have the right tools and understanding from the outset.

What will you learn?

Upon successful completion, delegates will be equipped to:

  • Understand Legislation and Codes of Practice: Gain a thorough understanding of the legislation and associated Codes of Practice governing Street Works across the UK, including the high-level differences between England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.
  • Conduct Inspections and Audits: Carry out detailed inspections and audits of ongoing or completed street works, assessing safety, quality, and compliance against the NRSWA Specification for the Reinstatement of Openings in Highways (SROH/SROR) and the Safety at Street Works and Road Works Code of Practice.
  • Comprehend Permit Schemes and Guidance: Understand the principles of Street Works permit schemes, the DfT’s guidance on portable vehicular signals, and key health and safety regulations such as HSG 47, HSG 150, and the CDM Regulations 2015.
  • Report and Escalate Findings: Complete inspection or audit reports accurately and use them as evidence in disputes, while identifying common deficiencies in signing, lighting, guarding, and reinstatement.
  • Ensure Compliance and Quality: Recognize and address poor working practices, understand the impact of inadequate backfill or reinstatement, and identify when investigatory inspections are needed.
  • Test and Assure Materials: Grasp the principles of testing backfill and reinstatement materials and understand the DfT’s guidance on street works inspections and coring.
  • Navigate Local Policies: Understand the differences between NRSWA Codes of Practice and local policies, practices, and procedures, and comprehend the structure and guidance of RAUC, NIRAUC, and HAUC.
  • Resolve Disputes: Learn the formal HAUC dispute resolution processes applicable in each devolved nation and effectively escalate disputed inspection or audit results.
  • Meet Accreditation Requirements: Understand the NRSWA accreditation requirements for operatives and supervisors.

A Unique Opportunity for Professional Development

The course is designed as a ‘bolt-on’ to the SWQR units/card and is a unique certification that enhances these professional qualifications. The training course is exclusive to Develop, and there are very few training providers in the UK offering such specialised instruction for street works inspections and auditing.

The course not only enhances individual skills but also promotes a standardised and consistent approach to street works inspections across the industry, as certified by the Highway Authorities and Utilities Committee (HAUC (UK)). By completing this course, delegates will contribute to the broader goal of improving street works safety, quality, and compliance across the UK.

The NRSWA Inspections – Safety, Quality, and Compliance course is more than just a training course – it’s an investment in the future of street works management. By empowering inspectors, auditors, and managers with the right knowledge and tools, we are helping to ensure that street works are carried out safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with the law.

Enrol today and take the first step towards enhancing your professional capabilities and contributing to a safer, more reliable street works environment.
