Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network Names James White as New CEO

The Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network's Board of Directors has made a pivotal decision in selecting the organization's new leader. Following a statewide search process in July 2024, James White was named President and CEO of Michigan's largest community mental health organization.

After receiving over 60 applications, DWIHN's CEO Search Committee conducted in-depth interviews, narrowing the pool to two final candidates. These finalists were interviewed by a diverse panel of DWIHN staff, community stakeholders, and members from the provider network. Following day-long interviews, the DWIHN Board of Directors, in a near-unanimous vote, officially appointed James White to lead the organization.

A Vision for the Future

James White's appointment comes at a transformative time for DWIHN. With the launch of the 707 Crisis Care Center and the Mobile Crisis Services and the upcoming expansion of Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHCs), White will play a key role in guiding the organization's mission to serve over 123,000 people across Wayne County.

"We are very pleased with the choice of Mr. White to continue leading DWIHN," said Board Chairperson Dr. Cynthia Taueg. "We feel confident that he is the right person for this critical role, especially as we continue our growth to serve our region's most vulnerable citizens better."

White's extensive leadership background—most notably serving as Chief of Police in Detroit for the past four years—and his behavioral health expertise position him as a dynamic leader to build upon DWIHN's recent advancements.

A Leader with Experience in Behavioral Health

White brings a unique combination of public service and mental health expertise to his new role. He holds a Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling from Central Michigan University and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Wayne State University. His previous experience includes two decades in leadership roles with the City of Detroit's Police Department and as Executive Director with the Michigan Department of Civil Rights.

Interim CEO Manny Singla will continue to manage day-to-day operations in collaboration with DWIHN's Executive Leadership Team as White transitions into his new role.

Looking Ahead

Under White's leadership, DWIHN is poised to further enhance its services, focusing on improving customer experience and expanding community-based support. The organization's ongoing work to offer choice and access to behavioral healthcare remains central to its mission.

Stay tuned for updates as James White begins this exciting new chapter at DWIHN, leading efforts to better serve Wayne County's most vulnerable communities.
