Detroit Red Wings: There's A Badge For That
Welcome to Mobile Mondays with YinzCam. ??
Each Monday, we'll bring you a success story in the space of mobile apps for sports and live events. We'll share how our clients inspire us with their creativity, and dive into a data nugget, a user experience, a best practice, a client case study, a product launch, or a milestone. ??
The Detroit Red Wings have launched their Digital Badge Program, and Hockeytown has wasted no time getting involved. ?? ?? ??
The Digital Badge Program turns engaging moments into badge-worthy achievements. Attending a game? That's a badge. Keeping up with the latest Red Wings content? That's another. Watching Stories? Earned. Playing games in the app? Add it to the collection.
With already over 30 badges available to earn inside the Red Wings app, fans have plenty of ways to level up—whether it's attending one game or twenty games, watching ten videos or twenty-five videos, or listening to the game inside the app—the Red Wings reward fan-dedication both in the arena and beyond.
Additionally, Red Wings fans have embraced the badge program in a major way. Since its launch, more than 10,900 fans have started earning badges—unlocking over 36,000 badges in total—proving passion is high in Detroit.
Among the most-earned badges is the "Attend 1 Game" badge, which has already been claimed over 7,500 times—because nothing beats being in Little Caesars Arena when the puck drops. Fans are also unlocking thousands of badges for engaging with the latest Red Wings content by reading news articles, watching videos, and listening to podcasts, proving their dedication extends far beyond the arena. And with over 6,700 fans earning a badge just for turning on push notifications, it's clear—Detroit fans stay locked in.
Many fans are even taking things to the next level, already stacking 10, 15, and even 20 badges alone on their fan profile pages, proving just how deep their Red Wings loyalty runs. From die-hard game attendees to constant content-consuming followers, the passion to earn team badges is undeniable in Detroit.
Jamie Despard, Web & App Manager, Detroit Red Wings, shared, "Our fans mean the world to us, and we want them to feel recognized and rewarded for being the best. We launched our Digital Badge program to celebrate fan loyalty while encouraging meaningful actions. The app is an essential link between the fans and the brand; it is our goal to create rewarding experiences that keep them coming back."
We want to send a massive shout-out of gratitude to Jamie Despard, Website & App Manager, Hannah Paris, Web & App Specialist, Kimberly Klopfenstein, Manager, IT Sourcing and Vendor Management, and the entire Red Wings organization, for your commitment to innovation and for bringing the Digital Badge Program to life, creating a new way for fans to engage with the Red Wings app in Hockeytown.
