DETERMINED TO REDETERMINE!
Health Tech 4 Medicaid
We're on a mission to radically change the pace of innovation in Medicaid, improving quality, equity and access to care.
DETERMINED!
Ironically, April?is Medicaid Awareness Month, which typically is a time to promote health equity and raise awareness of the vital role Medicaid plays as a lifeline for families and communities.?But for HT4M, April began the ticking clock of Medicaid redetermination and the monumental task of pushing the healthcare industry to its limit as it's?constantly evolving and access to healthcare services has become even more of a critical issue for many Americans.
So, for a while, get used to HT4M (and me personally) pushing the ecosystem further.?We?are?going to be asking entrepreneurs to not only have equitable and inclusive products and services in Medicaid--but to consider?HIRING?people on Medicaid for their teams.?For States and policymakers, we want to see the "humanization" of what the redetermination means for families and our communities and pushing for more collaboration with non-profits (like us) and CBO's to help in convening and outreach.?For investors, ranging from angel to venture to private equity, we are expecting the advancement of??health equity, driving?the business case for enablement of improved health outcomes and enterprise value.?Payers and providers of all shapes and sizes, we will be holding you accountable and making sure rationalization of care is adequate and the promise of the "safety-net" is viable.
I got the nickname "Madam Medicaid" more than a decade and a half ago.?I was coined that term because people said I could turn any dinner?party conversation into one focused on or around the Medicaid facts and?information with an?enthusiastic allegiance to the 57 year old lifesaving program.?Over the past?15 years, "Madam Medicaid" has been?bestowed upon me, it has taken a life of its own.?Now it is a occupation as a social entrepreneur in addition to Twitter and Instagram handle, and while there are many people with a couple of different versions to the many stories out there?(that’s how you know it’s a good story, right?!)--one thing has remained consistent--I am committed to Medicaid!
If you have been to any meetings with me or heard me on any?of the many conference stages in the past 4 months, I have been beating a loud drum about MEDICAID REDETERMINATION and I will continue.?My personal goal (and one of HT4M) is that all of the 91.4M Medicaid recipient's (and maybe even the additional 22.3M people who qualify for Medicaid and are not on the program)?get care and we move as an ecosystem toward being?focused on driving measurable impacts to both health outcomes and business metrics.
Tell us here?how we can partner together during Medicaid Awareness Month and the start of REDETERMINATION.
Continuously in the fight!

MEDICAID REDETERMINATION & UPCOMING WEBINAR
Join our webinar,?"Determined to Redetermine"?on?Thursday, April 13th at 9am PST / 12pm EST?to get the latest information on the Medicaid eligibility redetermination process, to explore timelines and provider roles for Medicaid stakeholders, and to discuss how current Medicaid beneficiaries will be impacted. Speakers will discuss the importance of updating Medicaid patient contact information and how critical it is to ensure people maintain their healthcare coverage.
During the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency (PHE), Medicaid disenrollment or member “churn” was paused in every state in exchange for enhanced federal funding. However, on December 29, 2022 The Consolidated Appropriations Act was signed into law, which called for the end of continuous coverage as of March 31, 2023. As States begin resuming Medicaid disenrollment, an estimated 18 million people could lose their Medicaid coverage this year.
In anticipation of the largest healthcare transition since the first open enrollment of the Affordable Care Act, HealthTech 4 Medicaid is dedicated to spotlighting and sharing essential information, insightful resources, and innovative solutions that impact members and stakeholders within the Medicaid ecosystem.
Starting on April 1, 2023, we will need to redetermine all 91.4 million individuals on Medicaid in this country.
Medicaid redetermination, also known as eligibility redetermination, renewal, case review, and recertification, is the process states use to ensure Medicaid enrollees continue to be eligible for Medicaid coverage. At the start of the pandemic, Congress enacted the Families First Coronavirus Response Act which included a requirement that Medicaid programs keep people continuously enrolled through the end of the COVID-19 public health emergency (PHE).The Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2023, however has called for the continuous coverage requirement to end on March 31, 2023, and states will be able to resume Medicaid disenrollments starting April 1, 2023.
We want to know what innovative solutions you are working on and/or seeing to help Medicaid enrollees maintain their coverage! What kinds of outreach work, education programs, or enrollment assistance is happening across the ecosystem, and how can we help uplift it?

Equitable & Inclusive Design @ HT4M
Since our inception, HealthTech 4 Medicaid has been prioritizing equitable and inclusive design work that further spotlights how to better combat and confront bias and exclusion in Medicaid; our goal has been to disrupt the current design processes of products, services, delivery systems, capital markets, and narrative changes while uplifting and centering traditionally underrepresented Medicaid communities.

We are looking to push the limits of our work, and are calling out into ecosystem for anyone interested in being a part of the community of leaders who will support us in advancing equitable and inclusive design through HealthTech 4 Medicaid’s Equitable Design Council. By starting the disruption within our own organization, we can better utilize our platform to stimulate and encourage the larger ecosystem to follow suit.?We hope this group will assess the current and future value of design, assist in the advancement of the use and understanding of equitable design as it relates to Medicaid, and further establish how equitable design adds value to the businesses within the Medicaid space, their offerings and their impact on the lives of those on Medicaid.
On March 23, 2023, we held our first?"Design our Design"?virtual workshop.
With this event we focused on how to better our Equitable and Inclusive Design Council framework, which will serve as an arc of our programing to further address the exclusionary systemic barriers of product, service, delivery system, capital market, and narrative change designs within the Medicaid ecosystem. Workshops like these are a crucial part of improving Medicaid care because we can learn where to improve as an organization within healthcare system and how to better prioritize supporting and including the most vulnerable populations.
