Over the weekend many terrible things occurred in Minneapolis. Included in these tragedies was the complete destruction of the oldest independent bookstore in the United States. Uncle Hugo’s is more than a brick and mortar store, it is the embodiment of an ideal. It is a place where people come together to share their love of literature and occasionally to meet with the authors.
So, the physical structure has been destroyed, but they can’t destroy an ideal. This is a call to all who value literature and science fiction and fantasy specifically. Let the sign of the Phoenix be our standard. This is a call to Lois and Scott and Tate, (and to all the authors in the Twin Cities). I have visited with you at Hugo’s and I cherish those memories and look forward to the day when we can visit again.
If you have not done so, reach out to Don and let him know that he must not let the ideal which is Hugo’s be destroyed. With all of our support for Don, the Phoenix shall rise from the ashes stronger and more vibrant than before this tragedy.
Stay safe every one and be well
Rob
