Destiny

Going through so many thoughts in my mind as to ‘why what happened, happened’ and “are we in control of anything at all”?, I walked into this person’s office. The office had a small meeting table, lots of books and a white board.

On the white board was this text from Brhadaranyaka Upanishad [it was also written in Sanskrit but I mention the translation below].

“You are your deep driving desires,

As your desire, so is your will.

As your will, so is your action.

As your action, so is your destiny”

Honestly, I would have never come across it if not for this meeting because I have not even known of this upanishad’s existence.?

This is the best text (so far) to make sense of my destiny; which initially looked like an ad-hoc plan.?

  • First, my deep driving desire was to be born. So I took birth.
  • Then, my deep driving desire was to be free. So I left home at 19.
  • Then, my deep driving desire was to be noticed/seen. So I became a successful entrepreneur.
  • Then, my deep driving desire was to experience freedom, so I gave it all up.
  • Then, my deep driving desire was to experience love, so I found it.
  • Now, my desire is to experience the ultimate truth. So be it.

If you want to see how your destiny shaped up so far, at each milestone (good or bad); ask what was the deepest driving desire here?

You’ll get so many answers that will reveal to you who you really are. The catch is acceptance that it is a ‘deep driving desire’ even if it is not most suitable for your current situation or life.
