Destiny, Fate and Free-Will

Last night while I was reading one of the best-sellers book, 'Designing Destiny' by Kamlesh Patel, Global Guide of Heartfulness and popularly known as Daaji, I had an elaborate and interesting discussion on the subject with my wife. Sharing short snippet from our conversation.

Rule #1 - What we are today is nothing but a 'Product of Our Own Past'

The actions we did, including our inactions (that is, things that we could / should have done), the choices we made, and the thoughts that we were living with (then), were shaping our Identity, our Character and thereby, our Fate. Weren't our actions, choices and thoughts, sowing the seeds for the future, which is nothing but this very day and moment that we are living in?

Rule #2 - Action & Outcome can be disjoint in Space-Time fabric

So, unlike Newton’s Third Law of Motion, our actions and their outcomes can be spaced far apart in Space-and-Time. What we might be experiencing today was written in stone due to the actions we made a few milli-seconds to years before. And for those who believe in Re-birth and immortality of Soul, this could be even a millennia back!

Remember, Nature's Law is to Balance, but this may not be immediate!

Rule #3 - Outcomes might precede action

At times, outcomes can be observed even when there has been no action. Now, this might be due to-

  • Rule #2 above because of which we might not know why we are experiencing what we are going through. Or,
  • Life might be preparing us for the future. There’s a famous saying, “Life is hard because it gives you the test first, and then the lesson”.

So given all the 3 rules above, what should be our approach as preparation & response to these rules?

  1. Rule #1 above, requires of us to always ‘Do the Right Thing’, ‘Have Right / Positive Thoughts’, and ‘ACT'’. And don't forget to add an additional ‘NOW’ to all these three.
  2. In addition, we need to continually 'Improve Ourselves' and keep 'Expanding our current level of Consciousness', thereby enabling us to decipher and tap into our real Potential and Wisdom. This in turn becomes an enabler for us to make the right choices & decisions for our future, 'NOW'! And for the same, Meditation, Inner-connect and Self-Introspection are the ONLY known tools.
  3. Rule #2 reminds us that ‘Patience is the key’ and nothing would be missed in the timeline of God/Nature. Additionally, beware of the your actions and deeds that you are doing at the current time coz there would be a payback time, for sure!
  4. Rule #3 is all about ‘Acceptance’ and ‘Faith’. Whatever life throws at you, accept it, Heartfully. And have enough faith that it is for a greater good which I can't understand now but would unfold later, at an appropriate & opportune time.

Do you agree? And what’s your idea of destiny and fate? Do share your Thoughts / Suggestions in the comments below.

Creative dreams, will-force and effort are of prime importance in life to alter our inherited destiny. However, sometimes we find ourselves miserable victims of uncontrollable natural calamities, man-made troubles, incurable diseases and absolute frailty of everything. In the Ramayana, Rama was destined to suffer separation from his wife Sita. In the Mahabharata, Abhimanyu had to be slain in unfair war despite being the son of the greatest archer Arjuna and nephew of Krishna. When bereaved Gandhari, after losing her hundred sons, cursed Krishna of similar family discontinuity, Krishna bowed down to say, “Mother, you have blessed me with a curse for what is already destined to happen.” These make us accept that what is destined to happen will happen.

Ankur, as you say, keep doing and thinking positively. My experience is life catches you up for current and past deeds. Whatever act we do at any instant, seems pertinent at that moment that's why each of us perform that. Then in hindsight based on outcome and experience, it gets seen as correct and incorrect deeds. At the end to have patience, it takes shape of destiny/ kismat/ niyati of life. As an individual, I believe all of us desires to have happiness and satisfaction, which are relative to every human. Like your analogy to laws.. ..
