Welcome back (future) Remote Champ,
This week, we’re heading to the world’s most populated country: India ????
PS: I was invited to The Culture Profit Podcast to talk about how Remote Work can have a great impact on culture and profit.
?? A glimpse of what you can expect today
?? Meet Mayank (????)
A few weeks back, I met Mayank Pokharna who has been working remotely for over 6 years already. His story is pretty impressive: in 2017 he launched SimplyGuest Coliving in Bangalore, India. They had a very lean team and didn't have any office spaces. That’s how he got introduced to remote work and never looked back.
A few years later, Mayank built JumboTiger, a property management software for coliving, and since the end of 2021, he has been freelancing and working with companies in the UK, US, and Europe while traveling India and Southeast Asia.
Mayank has a very crazy goal: “I want to live in 100 cities (coliving) all over the world to bring his experience back home and use it to help develop the digital nomad community and ecosystem in India.
I must admit: that’s one hell of a cool mission ??
?? Mayank’s Remote Work tips:
? Have a routine
→ Plan your routine and use technology to help you execute it.
? Don’t forget to take your breaks
→ Take frequent breaks to avoid becoming overwhelmed.
? Your network is your net worth
→ Network with like-minded communities to have a support system.
?? His must-see in India:
India is too big to just name one, so Myank shared some hidden gems most people don’t visit: “Goa, Naggar, Dharamkot, and Kerela can help you experience the diversity India has to offer”.

?? How to convince your company to accept Remote Work?
1. Evaluate your current situation:
Determine why you want to transition to remote work. Is it for better work-life balance, reduced commute time, or an improved focus on tasks? Understanding the 'why' will help you present a clear case to your employer.
2. Research:
Look for data and studies that showcase the benefits of remote work, such as improved productivity, lower overhead costs, and higher employee satisfaction. Websites like Glassdoor and Salary.com can provide useful information. Additionally, familiarize yourself with the company's policy on remote work, if one exists.
3. Consider your job role and tasks:
Assess whether your role and responsibilities are suited for remote work. Some tasks are more effective when performed remotely, while others might require in-person interaction.
4. Develop a remote work proposal:
Create a proposal that outlines how you plan to manage your tasks remotely. This should include your proposed schedule, communication methods, and how you plan to stay accountable. Also, address any potential concerns your employer might have, such as team collaboration, meeting participation, and maintaining work quality.
5. Highlight the benefits to the employer:
Showcase how remote work can benefit the employer. This could include reduced office space costs, increased productivity, and access to a broader talent pool. Make the case that this is a win-win arrangement.

6. Arrange a meeting with your supervisor:
Request a meeting to discuss your proposal. Be clear and confident about why you're making this request and how it can benefit both parties.
7. Be flexible:
Understand that this might be a process of negotiation. The employer may propose a trial period, or a hybrid model combining remote work with some days in the office. Be open to these suggestions and willing to find a compromise.
8. Negotiate the tools and resources you will need:
Remote work requires specific tools and equipment. Make sure that you negotiate these details with your employer to ensure you have everything you need to work effectively.
9. Follow up:
After your discussion, send a follow-up email summarizing what was discussed and agreed upon. This keeps everyone on the same page and allows for clarification of any misunderstandings.
